"Super clean, staff very nice, cabins had kitchens and fireplace that were very nice, but the coffee maker did not work. Nice you could spend just one night but really once there you are going to want to spend at least two. No amenities like pool or gym but they did have the worlds smallest sheep. :) It would be nice if they had a couple of cabins with a jacuzzi tub for after a long drive. It was hard to get to but i think our GPS messed up and took us onto lots of gravel roads to get there so...

"Wonderful and yes, cozy, atmosphere at this establishment -- a nicely updated, clean and well-maintained 2-story motel probably originally of mid 20th C architectural vintage. Excellent staff/proprietor who exudes a calm, polite and caring demeanor. Very enjoyable 2-night stay in the late spring of 2026. "My impression is that this refurbished historic motel from the mid-20th century is owner operated. Plainly the staff try very hard to give you a good experience. This said, the room stank of disinfectant, so badly that I had to open all the windows for a hour or two to clear the room. Also the property backs against train tracks, which are in use. Otherwise fine."

"The breakfast buffet was very good with great variety. I also liked pots of hot coffee in the lobby available all day. The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of soundproofing between rooms. Perhaps it was because my room could be an adjoining room, but we could hear everything next door. Our neighbor called to complain about our tv volume, so I guess they could hear everything also."

"Loved the Black Walnut Inn. I would love to go back. The rooms are lovely. Breakfast is delicious. A very generous spread. Self-serve tea and coffee is available at all times in the dining room area. There are also treats one can help oneself too. Chocolate chip cookies our first day and molasses cookies the second. Meghan bakes the best cookies. Seriously, the best. The owners are very warm. If we visit Amherst again, staying here would be our first choice. Thank you."

"The customer service alone here makes me want to stay here time and time again! Every single staff member I dealt with at the front desk and on the phone was so kind and extremely pleasant to deal with. As a solo traveler, this also gave me a feeling of safety which I truly appreciate. The rooms may be slightly outdated, but was clean and comfortable for a one night stay. The mattress was a bit softer than I prefer, but the A/C ran great and I slept like a baby all night with zero disturbance....

"I don’t know where to begin. The place smelled like cigarette smoke. When I tried to check in I had to ring a bell and was to come back as the front desk staff seemed to all go out to lunch. After finally checking in, the tv didn’t work, the iron is broken and spilled water everywhere when I tried to iron my clothes. The bathroom showers had mold everywhere and I was genuinely afraid to step on the carpet, barefooted or touch anything in the room. I had to put my own bedsheets and pillowcases on...
