Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've planned ahead. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Homer escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The secret to having a hassle-free flight experience is to pack ahead. First up, the essentials: passport, travel documents, credit cards and medications. Next, bring on board items that'll help while away those hours, like some electronic devices or a good book. It's also smart to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. And of course, don't forget to chuck in toiletry items like a toothbrush, lip balm and a spare change of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Sharp or pointed objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, chemicals agents and gasoline, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to feel as comfortable as possible. Choose slip-on footwear, dress in loose, breathable clothing and remember to take a jacket in case you get chilly in the cabin.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some simple exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.
