Many staff are bilingual which made communication easy. And the hotel itself was in a quiet location overlooking the lake even though there were many tourists in the area. "Staff were very kind and informative. At check in, they sat me down & explained everything about the hotel. My room had the most incredible view of Hakone. The hotel was very clean. The bath house was very nice. There was also a neat little lounge room with records and such as well as a foot bath on the first floor. I did not take advantage of these things during my stay but still very nice features! The free breakfast was decent, mostly bread items. I don’t really have any complaints."

"We had a wonderful time at this ryokan. We chose this inn specifically for its remote location and traditional atmosphere and were not disappointed. The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. The building is old and reminded me of the railroad lodges of the western United States: creaky old doors and floors, metal keys, and rotary dial phones. Other than the hotel, there are no restaurants nearby (that I know of) and dinner is an elaborate kaiseki ryori that requires...
