We stayed at Riad Jaouhara for 3 nights and found it an absolute delight! The rooms were spacious; they were very accommodating, putting us in a different room that was kinder on my mother’s knees; and breakfast was great! We really enjoyed our interactions with the gentleman who served us breakfast every day- he was polite and charming. The Riad was within 3 minutes walk to the blue gate and highly accessible to the souk and major attractions.
A very pleasant stay in this truly magnificent and very well-located riad. I sincerely thank the entire professional team who will listen to you and respond to your requests with a smile! Another big thank you and I will definitely come back a fourth time!!!! As se you soon 😉

Riad Jaouhara is a gem. An old merchants’ home with years of history, it has been lovingly restored in traditional style to what would have been its former glory. The tile work, the caved wooden doors, the beautiful patio complete with plunge pool and resident birds all add to the tranquility one feels on stepping from the hustle and bustle at the edge of the Medina into a bye gone era.
The smiling staff are friendly and caring…nothing is too much trouble. Traditional breakfast is served at tables scattered around the patio..delicious. Beds are firm and comfortable and there is a bar fridge in the room. We stayed downstairs in a room opening directly on to the patio with a separate seating area.
Wifi is not the best, but neither was the phone signal…probably blocked by very dense walls. However I noted pigeons had boxes on the rooftop so perhaps the merchant who owned the house had a more functional communication system than the present day. The view from the rooftop is spectacular.
THANK YOU for making our stay memorable.
Location is just excellent, very close to the market, restaurants and the blue gate. Staffs are very friendly. Big room. I recommend this hotel for Fez.
Very large bedroom, sitting room, and bath, all tiled and decorated, formerly a merchants house. Clean, great service. Initially had a room facing the street, too noisy, and was able to upgrade to courtyard. Recommend the courtyard for quiet.
We had an amazing time staying in this beautiful riad. The staff are really attentive and helpful. The riad is so beautiful and clean. The courtyard is like a little oasis with beautiful plants and birds.
The breakfast is all freshly made and authentic.
The riad is located just a minute away from the blue gate in Medina so it was great location for exploring around the medina. It's fully gated so feels very safe and quite inside.
We had a really wonderful stay at Riad Jaouhara.
We were able to have a delicious and filling dinner there, ordered during the day for that evening.
They got the lactose-free milk I needed - very helpful. They did laundry for us which was returned the same day, reasonably priced and helpful.
They provided a taxi from the train station. Any time we needed a taxi, we got it through them. When we wanted to do day trips outside Fez, such as to the mountains, and to Meknes and that area, they arranged it for us. It was convenient, reasonably priced and quite enjoyable.
We speak English only and their English is really good.
They really have an attitude of wanting to help in any way they can. They are friendly and warm. I would gladly stay there again.
The riad is very attractive, well kept and comfortable. We loved having breakfast every day in the courtyard and hanging out there after a long day in the souk or touring, or after dinner.
Souka is there during the day. Ahmad is there in the evening and overnight. They could not have been better! Attentive, helpful, good humored, knowledgeable. We repeatedly counted on them and grew to like them a lot.
The riad is extremely well located. It's near two gates into the Medina, one of them the Blue Gate. You step out of the Riad, close to the souk and restaurants.
I look forward to staying there again and seeing our friends at the Riad!
Lovely family run Riad that is located in the Médina, yet it is an oasis in the bustle

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Cleanliness
The Riad was really disappointing. The room was quite smelly and rather small. The furniture seemed quite old. Since we had a room upstairs in the third floor the Wifi did not work. The bathroom was not properly cleaned, which we therefore did after arriving. Visible traces of dirt could be easily removed, but our confidence in the overall cleanliness was shattered. The staff is friendly though and breakfast was okay. In the end the prepaid transfer to the airport booked by the Riad did not show up. The staff than asked another driver on the street picking up tourists, if he were able to take us with him, and thereby fixed the problem. Of course, no refund was offered to us. I am wondering, whether they have to pay the full amount. Money seems to be an issue there, anyways. Interestingly, the local tax had to be paid in Euro (and was therefore more than the actual tax). On my request, payment in MAD was possible, but to their exchange rate. For two nights we paid 132 dh instead of the usual 120. With only 20 people in the Riad in 300 nights a year this constituates an additional payment of 18.000 dh a year, which is only slightly lower than the average income of a moroccan citizen; a practice one might call tax fraud under european jurisdictions. May be the tax authorities in Morocco leave some room for such practices. Nevertheless, in another Riad in the city we paid 30 dh instead. To sum it all up, I would not recommend a stay in Riad Jaouhara.
A lovely oasis in the medina, easy to find and very well located near the blue gate.
Overall the riad was clean and tidy and hosts very accommodating. The room we had was very bijou and the bed not at all comfortable, it was like sleeping on a board. We only stayed for a couple of nights so it wasn't an issue. I would also not recommend this riad for those with limited mobility. There are a lot of stairs and the staircase is very narrow too!!
Overall a good stay.
Beautiful riad in a great location. Staff was pleasant but reserved. It seemed that little effort was made to interact with guests. A map of the medina, even a very basic one, would have been greatly appreciated.
