The Bungalows by Homestead Modern at The Joshua Tree Retreat Center
8/10 Good
"Very nice place, but very very confusing. Very mixed bag and I won’t stay again.. unless they change some things.
First during check in, it’s all digital which is fine, but I got delayed instructions so I contacted the company and they did get back to me quickly.
When I arrived at night, the bungalows and property map were clearly labeled, but don’t match the check-in info very well, so when I got to mine I was hoping I wasn’t going to the wrong one and intruding! When I did get in, the walls are extremely thin and you could hear the adjoining bungalow.. and I mean you could understand every single word that they were speaking at a normal volume, because the walls are so thin.
The place is super cool, very midcentruy architecture which I love. Huge glass windows/doors, nice little kitchen and comfy bed. Nice touch to include snacks.
BUT… I had some of the worst sleep because it was cold outside, and the mini split had a “governor” on it where it only let me turn temp up to 65 degrees, and I have circulation problems and sleep super cold. I texted the staff and they actually did answer late in the night, BUT they told me they’d ask someone, and then get back to me. They never did—not even in the morning when I tried texting again. I had to find every blanket and towel in the unit and put it on me to try and stay warm.
In the morning I went out to explore the grounds in the daylight and it is very pretty, but also kind of a diff/off vibe there that is hard to explain."
"Location to Joshua Tree National Park was excellent. Would have been nice to have a real person available to chat with about the area, recommendations for dining, etc. No information available in the room. Nice room and patio with outdoor tub, shower and bed to lie on for star gazing."
"I have booked over a hundred stays just on this app and never had such a poor experience. Be aware they will lie and try to charge you twice, add on additional fees and finally try and charge even more additional fees on their end. While the facility itself is okay, the host is a nightmare "
