During Durga Pooja, the Entire City of Kolkata is shining with vibrant colors and light for all 9 days of Navratri festival. People from various caste and creeds come together to pray to Goddess Durga for courage and determination to fight and achieve victory over all obstacles in their lives. Its a real treat for your eyes and your tongue to be present in Kolkata during Durga Poojo!! #lifeatexpedia #lights
They are now struggling for survival - the cabin restaurants was the busy with activities till a few decades back. While the footfalls have fallen in recent times, what remains constant is the quality of the food. Truly they innovated certain dishes which has become part of mainstream food. Afghani cutlet is one such dish. While cutlet was more an innovation of colonial people in Indian kitchens, dipping it into a tomato based gravy rich with vegetables is what Afghani Cutlet is all about. #GootEats
Diwali and Holi could be the most spoken about festivals of India, but the biggest revelry in Bengal, Durga Pujo festival which takes place for 5 days(apparently) in Autumn is worth the mention to the culture and Art connoisseurs around the world. Being a Bengali, though I’m residing abroad in US for many years now, each year my heart wails and I turn restless if I’m not able to make it to my homeland to get the smell of Autumn and Durga Pujo. It brings me immense pride to introduce you all about the festival in my culture and place of birth. This is the annual celebration of Hindu religion revering the Homecoming of Ma Durga, the Goddess representing Shakti or Female Strength &power. Its a multi day festival that features elaborate temples, pandals(stage decorations) , scriptures, performance arts, fairs, food, oceanic count of crowds and lots of fun. This is that time of the year where artists from every corner of West Bengal come together and put their sweat for months and months in preparing these works of grandeur Art, just to treat our eyes on these special five days in Autumn, Sept/Oct. During this time, people of every age group, religious backgrounds, caste and languages come together to be lost equally in this revelry of absolute food and fun. Visitors from all over the country as also from many parts of the world throng in to be enthralled by such massive creativity display at one place. #mycityofkolkata #durgapujoinkolkata #festivaltime

Honestly, no matter how much I enjoy exploring the world cuisine, I am proud to be a Bengali when it comes to my Food habits. Our tastebuds are meant for some delicious recipes on earth quintessential to a regular Bengali Home. We Bengalis have big appetite for a platter which typically has 5-7 types of starters to Main course to 5 types of Desserts. The reason why we have more number or occasions than the days in a year, as it is said in Bengali, Baro(12) mashe(months) Tero (13) parbon(rituals). 😂 Now there are two types of Bengalis and we have our own share of kinds of recipes. People from East Bengal, aka Bangladesh who migrated to Indian side of Bengal(West Bengal in India) are called Bangals and I was born in West Bengal, hence I am a Ghoti! There has always existed a Cold War between Bangals and Ghotis as to who makes the best of ‘Chingri Malaikari or Ilish Bhapa. Despite everything , we forget all our inside wars once the food platter is in front. One thing is for sure, if not for the Bangals we wouldn’t have gotten the Chingri Malaikari and Ilish Recipes. This is a platter prepared by my Mother-In-Law during one of the rituals when I was on vacation to Home during the festivities, last month. Isn’t it gorgeous?! 😍 Happy Tummy! 😋#GoodEats
