"Our stay here was the highlight of a three week vacation in Japan. It is an unique, deep immersion into Japan culture and hospitality while still being comfortable for non-Japanese. The tranquility and quality of the environment, the accommodations, and the food were exceptional. The staff were friendly, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. They savored their role as guides into the culture and traditions that they offered. While it was a very traditional experience, the facilities...

"Sowaka was amazing. Great location, beautiful hotel, incredible food, perfect staff! Do take the 5:45 am tour to Kiyomizu-dera with the incredibly knowledgeable hotel manager. A wonderful and unique experience without all the tourists around."

"Expensive breakfast and not worth the price- only negative. Hotel is within a cab ride of all attractions or a 20 minute walk. Staff are very friendly and hotel is clean and rooms are beautiful."

"The Aoi Hotel is located centrally to great restaurants, shopping, local attractions, and beautiful views. I was pleasantly surprised to be far enough from the main hustle and bustle to have peace and quiet, but close enough to walk to enjoy Kyoto. The staff is helpful and friendly, just a chat away using their cool interactive pad accessible in the room. Our room had a washer/dryer and they provided detergent, which helped us get reset for our time in Kyoto. Did I mention it’s spacious! We had...

"Absolutely wonderful stay! The hotel was impeccably clean, and the experience exceeded all of our expectations. We were able to check in early, and the staff kindly stored our luggage after checkout, which was incredibly convenient. The complimentary breakfast and nightly ramen were such a lovely bonus. The hotel also has an onsite laundry room, spacious rooms, and large TVs. Everything was thoughtfully provided, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The location is also fantastic,...

"This quaint hotel was clean, staff was friendly, and rooms were a good size. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in Kyoto. It was a short walk to Nishiki market and had tons of local restaurants near it too."

"Great spot! Pretty self service for the most part but a great spot right in Gion."

"Starting from day one to checking out, customer service is consistently excellent. All staff are very helpful with all my concerns, since I don’t speak Japanese. Hotel room very clean and spacious ! Close to train station and other tourist spot"

"What a wonderful experience! Every member of the staff here was so kind, professional and eager to go above and beyond. The room was beautiful, comfortable and had so many lovely amenities. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but it was delicious with the staff remembering our coffee orders each morning. Highest praise for this hotel. We can’t wait to return!"
