"I checked into the hotel at about 11pm. I booked a room with a king size bed. The room I booked hadn’t been cleaned so they offered a different room with 2 queens. When I got to that room, there were pillows with no pillow cases on them all on a pile on the bed and there were no clean bath towels. I had to call down for the pillow cases and towels. The next night, friends I was traveling with that booked another room at this hotel found a live mouse in their room. We all checked out immediately! At the time we were checking out, there were others chatting out for the same reason, a mouse in their room. "
"The room was relatively clean but there was no hand soap (the front desk told me that didn't have any), the phone in the room didn't work, the bed was creaky, and the walls (and ceiling) were very thin. I woke up to some very loud talking and music multiple times during my two-day stay, I thought it was the room beside us but the bulk of the loud music turned out to be the staff. The breakfast was scarce and sketchy (the eggs and sausage looked very questionable). The front desk staff weren't overly helpful but they were friendly. It was a budget-friendly price, but I will not be staying there again."
Holiday Inn Express Rochester - University Area by IHG
2/10 Terrible
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! When you walk in, there is no reservation desk. The receptionist is sitting at a table which was very disheveled. The furniture in the "lobby" was shabby and dirty. While we stood at the desk, a sign on the wall informed me that the hotel is owned by an independent operator, not affiliated with Holiday Inn (I don't understand how they are able to use the brand name, which is deceiving). Anyway, after a brusk exchange with the receptionist, we rode the filthy elevator to our room. Upon entry we immediately noticed fingernail clippings, half chewed candies and dirt on the carpet and the beds appeared hastily made.
I tried to call the desk, but the phone was out of order, so I went back down and described the situation to the receptionist who moved us to another room. Again the beds looked hastily made and this time there were dirty finger smears on the folded over part of the bed sheet, Again the floor was not vacuumed AND the inside of the door and part of the door knob were smattered with what looked like bbq sauce!
Again the phone didn't work so I went back to the desk. This time the receptionist came up to the room, took pictures, and called the owner.
We demanded a refund, At first she said she wasn't able to refund since I had booked w/Hotels.com. When I reminded her that she had JUST charged my credit card $499 for 3 nights + a $100 refundable "courtesy" fee, she reversed herself. By now it was 11:00 pm & we left and booked another hotel."
