The only downfall of this hotel in my opinion was there wasn’t a coffee maker in the room. It is outdated some but for sleeping it was fine. There is a great little place next door, Cook, they had great coffee and amazing food selections!!

For us the St James was perfect. Gracious staff,very clean, and a nice bed. We asked for a quiet room in the back and had no street noise or even neighbors talking. No micro, coffee maker or fridge, but who really needs those. ( Family-owned..we celebrated Ms.Weg’s 98th b-day. ) The St James is a delight!

I had a great stay at Hotel St James. I wish there were more amenities in the rooms including a larger refrigerator and more charging ports. It was in a great location and I can’t wait to come back to the city and stay with them!

Conveniently located between Penn Station and Lincoln Center. Staff were incredibly helpful with planning transportation.

I couldn't believe how close it was to Times Square and how quiet it was based on that. Staff was terrific. Room was basic, but comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Had a really lovely stay here. I was surprised at how central it was to everywhere in New York. Room was quiet at the back of hotel and I didn’t hear any noise. I came alone and felt incredibly safe. Met lovely Joey on reception who was a dream and an asset to the hotel, will definitely be staying again when I come in the next few months.

What was positive: the location and the front desk staff, Joey. Joey was kind, accommodating and sympathetic when our flight was cancelled. BUT I have NEVER been in a hotel where there was no ICE BUCKET, COFFEE MAKER, OR REFRIGIRATOR. NEVER!!!! The hotel was old and it appears that it was in the mist of being remodeled. Even though it was centrally located in Time Square, the condition of the hotel and the lack of amenities or lack there of, was not worth the price of the hotel stay. I would not recommend this hotel.

Terrific location. Steps away from Time Square. Easy access to Broadway, walkable to Central Park and other attractions. Deli next door has great food, and Conolly’s is a great little pub. Hotel is older with alot of charm. Rooms are small. Beds ok. It was pretty warm in our room but we made due. Would stay here again in a heartbeat for location alone!

While the rooms are very basic but clean, the rest of the hotel is in a sorry state. This is a two star hotel, adjust your expectations if you book it!

The pros: Location close to lots of things to do and restaurants. Clean and safe room. Friendly staff, you can store your luggage before check in. Helpful with providing directions to airport via the subway. The cons: not handicapped accessible- front steep 4-5 stairs. We got stuck in the elevator 3 times, had to push alarm and call front desk for help. Internet doesn’t work well at all, nor the television. Hotel room had one easily accessible outlet and one in bathroom. Not counter or sink space, everything kept falling on floor. Paper thin walls, woke up each morning at 6am (on vacation!) to crying baby next door.

Staff were extremely helpful. Hotel is a bit dated, however, is a superb location if you want easy Subway/Rail and Bus options for exploring. Very close to Times Square, however, quiet considering. Lots of tourist and activities within walking distance. A good place to stay for seeing a Broadway show

Decent hotel at an amazing location. Incredibly quiet in the room compared to the cacophonous Times Square environment. Older building but what can we expect right? Overall a good stay.

Hoping they are still working on the property, as it could be so cool. Need to work on the strong cleaner smell, it's quite offputting. Great to know it's clean but the smell isn't good. Also, some pictures or more homey things in the rooms. Hotel has all one needs for sure, and the staff was super nice. But the icing would be some decorating and more things in the rooms to make them comfy and "match" the coolness of the old lobby,

Ik was eerder bij hotel st James, het meest geweldige is de ligging. Het hotel is oud maar netjes, het personeel vriendelijk. Het enige wat mij dit keer tegenviel was de kleine kamer. Vooral het bed vonden wij te klein. Wel fijne matras. Maar was in Amerika grotere bedden gewend. Heb dus eigenlijk slecht geslapen.

I really liked the personable front desk staff. They are always nice and ready to help. I had forgotten a luggage at the hotel and the staff was very helpful. They he property is very close to Times Square but is on the quiet side and is clean.

Very dated. Close to amenities. Roo..was clean but everything else including common ares is VERY dated. Asked staff a question and got a back habded answer while looking away. Very unenthusiastic. I woupd not stay here again.

Older hotel but with lots of charm! Room was very nice and clean. I was there on business and so did not spend much time there but to sleep. Easy walk to Subway on 6th Ave, can walk to a lot of tourist attractions very easily! Location was perfect to where my office was located and activities we had planned.

Would like to start by saying the location is great, you are less than a block away from Time Square and although the area is noisy and busy, the hotel itself was quiet. If you need a hub to move around the city with ease this is your place, in addition the staff was great and accommodating. Everything was very clean as well. Now, the bad part, the bed and mattress were awful, like the worse we have ever experienced, not the only the bed rocks and squeaks, the mattress was hard and at the same time flimsy, if a 120 pounds person can make it bend to the side, means there was no support whatsoever, and let’s not talk about the pillows, just as bad. When traveling a good bed to have a restful night is extremely important and let’s clarify we didn’t expect a luxurious place but we did a good comfortable bed; for that reason we wouldn’t come back to this hotel.

Wonderful small older boutique hotel in a great position. We were warmly greeted at check in and all the staff were friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
