"Beautiful castle with a wonderful staff that made us feel really welcome. Food quality is amazing."

"Fake tan stains were in the bath from previous guest. Hot water took almost 10mins to come on. Outdoor had a few broken planters and weeds coming through the floor. Kitchen was closed for maintenance so there was no food options until breakfast the next day. I could hear people going in and out their rooms until about 2am and then starting again at 6am. I have stayed previously and was impressed but this time just felt like lack of care was given."

"The Abbey Residence has a rooming house feel. We had a spacious room with large but dated ensuite. The walls could use a lick of paint, but there were no real issues with the room. Wifi was good and our room had a good sized Roku based smart TV with lots of streaming options. Parking in central Edinburgh is hard so leave your car at the Abbey Residence and catch the bus into town from the bus stop just across the road. "I loved my stay at the Brae. It was the perfect place to get over jet lag as I embarked on a one-month vacation of the U.K. It’s a couple of miles outside of town, and the bus to downtown stops right in front of the house, which was perfect. Very comfortable for sleeping. Having a bath tub to soak in after a day full of walking was heaven. Graeme was an extremely welcoming and informative host. Definitely recommend t He Stay at the Brae."

"Everything was clean. I loved my room. It’s not the most updated place in the world, but it had its own charm. It’s warm and inviting. The staff was great, and had good suggestions for tours. It’s kind of a pain not having anything nearby. No convenience stores or coffee shops. You have to take a train or Uber. I tried the connected restaurant twice and did not care for it. It’ll do though with nothing else around. Overall, it was a good value and I felt safe and comfortable"

"Lovely restored house in a neighborhood (more like a B&B). There is a bus that runs into Edinburgh proper or you can take the mile walk. The hotel gives very good recommendations for local dining. Parking can be difficult (limited on-street parking for non-residents). No eating in the rooms."

"Photos of this place are mainly of larger rooms. I booked a single standard room but ultimately stayed in two different rooms. The first room's bathroom was down a winding staircase from the bedroom. The room itself was very tiny. Because I have arthritis in my leg, I requested a different room. The staff deserve praise for their helpfulness and friendliness in helping me switch rooms. The second room was larger and bathroom was in the same room (the good).
