"Very professional and friendly welcome, parking straightforward and lovely room (106) which had 3 large full length windows overlooking the Spa bridge and the sea. Towels lush.
The bar, restaurant and lounge areas were all clean and comfortable.
The only negative I have is the breakfast. They advertise only continental available which is fair enough but the pastries were very stale on the second day. Nothing is covered eg bread and cereals and jam is in big pots only so have to spoon onto your plate. Butter is a small pot on the table, otherwise it is Flora. All self serve including an egg boiler which I failed at twice! They did also provide bacon, scrambled, beans and pancakes on a random rickity table which lets the hotel down. The area and presentation could be improved quite easily with just a few changes in fresh products every day and clean covers/spoons to serve.
All that said I would recommend this hotel to anyone, location is perfect and staff are excellent. Oh not to forget free coffee/teas all day and fresh cake or biscuits daily at 4pm!!"
DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa
4/10 Poor
"The room was ok on arrival if you look past the stains on the carpet and hole in the hand towel. When I opened the hand towel a big clump of dark brown hair fell out of it. Made me feel sick.
Staff were nice. Check in was horrendous with only one person on the desk so a massive queue had formed. They take £100 off your card “in case” you spend anything on your room during your stay. Parking is ridiculous at £18 a night and a tiny car park it’s difficult to find a spot. Preparations for a wedding stopped us using the overflow car park.
Restaurant food was barely ok and very expensive. We were asked if we’d like water for the table then charged £4.50 for the pleasure. Saying that breakfast is wonderful with lots of choice.
The spa treatments were fully booked all weekend due to the wedding but the pool etc was available. Don’t use the lockers. If you’re lucky enough to get into one you won’t be able to use it again to get your belongings back as the locks are dodgy. The reception staff have to come in and smash the door off to get you your things out.
They advertise free WiFi but we could never log on. The TV doesn’t connect either so only the usual channels to watch.
All in all with the tired rooms, poor parking and poor food the stay is overpriced and definitely not a luxury stay. I wouldn’t go back."
"Lovely clean rooms. Very quiet, despite a road being close by. Food was excellent and a wide range of options at really reasonable prices. Staff were really helpful, the guys at the check in, bar and restaurant could not have been more attentive. A great find and we shall return."
"It is clear that the hotel’s glory days are in the past. There are indications of what it was like then but sadly also signs of its fall from grace. The positives were that the hotel was well situated, was clean, the views spectacular and entertainment was good. The staff were fine but there were few of them. The restaurant was very disappointing and food was mediocre at best. We even skipped breakfast. There was also a lot of noise in our room from seagulls nesting outside but fortunately they were quiet at night."
"Best part of the Hotel the staff friendly and welcoming . Personally would never stay again . The building is grand unfortunately time and the owners have not been kind to it. Very dated and neglected in parts. Appreciate that it’s a budget hotel but come on owners update the facilities. Paid £17:95 for a one course meal in the buffet restaurant was not worth it my opinion. So did not stay for breakfast had at a local cafe instead."
