Great art piece as a hotel and a art gallery. I had the onsen room with balcony. It was spacious and view was amazing. Definitely coming back in winter. But one suggestion to the hotel is the onsen is truly hot and there is only one small bucket. It was summer and it took one hour to adjust the water to a bearable temperature. It would be amazing if they do have a hose so I can speed up the cooling. I would have use the onsen once more in the very nice morning. overall highly recommend and great.

We really enjoyed our time at Galleria Midobaru. Even though the hotel was out of the way for guests without cars, it was still worth it. The private onsen in the room was fabulous. Everyone working there were respectful and kind. The rooms were clean and so comfortable. Will definitely be back! Thank you.

Tasteful hotel with great hot springs amenities

Enjoyed a relaxing stay and made the most of the personal onsen (hot springs tub) attached to our room. The room was spacious with a great view and comfortable bed and pillows. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I recommend getting the “half board” meal plan so you can enjoy breakfast and dinner at hotel, especially as it’s far from town and the food is quite good. Highly recommend!

We arrived later in the day, initially my partner and I were taken aback by how beautiful the hotel was being lit up and its architectural structure. Aside from the smell due to the sulfur of the onsens everywhere it’s a wonderful hotel, location, and staff. Highly recommend for a night or two to unwind.

An unique western style in the onsen town. Friendly staff. Minimized style. If you ask the hotel to help book a restaurant prior to arrival, they ask for a proxy fee (which seems to be a bit unreasonable given its high room rate).

Property was a bit difficult to get to and in a location not near other attractions (except for the beppu ropeway area). The hotel itself was excellent. The concept was unique and the rooms were great. It was fun discovering and enjoying all the artwork hidden throughout the hotel grounds. Breakfast and dinner options were both diverse and delicious. High quality and great service.

Having an actual onsen bath on the balcony in our room was 100% an absolute treat. Otherwise, the rooms were very stylish and well appointed and we liked the futon style bed. It’s quite a quiet hotel and about an £8 taxi ride out of town but, we had no issues getting a taxi and actually the mud bath was only a short taxi ride away. If you were looking for somewhere peaceful with beautiful views over the bay then this is the place for you. As with many Japanese hotels, the staff spoke limited English and there was nothing that using Google translate couldn’t handle. Recommended.

Room with Beppu city view

Very nice layout of the guest room. Lots of space and modern. Many wooden furniture though and found a small bug in one of the towels. Very nice view of beppu city, even though drive up to the hill was a bit difficult for bigger cars. All staff were welcoming and they helped to settle luggages inside the room. There were also welcome drinks after checked in. Design of the hotel is a masterpiece. Yet, smell of sulphur from hotsprings can be disturbing both inside the room and in the common area.
