The staff behind the counter was a bit snotty about the extra fees, claiming that all hotels require a deposit. I've been traveling for quite a while, and I've never seen a required deposit. I do expect that I would be charged if I...

"The room had not been cleaned. I think maybe only the bed sheets had been changed. There was poop in the toilet, leftover food in the fridge, the sink faucet was dirty and the carpet was filthy. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. The chairs in the breakfast area are covered in stained, filthy cloth. Only two towels and one washcloth provided although the reservation was for three people. Breakfast is very limited and seemed lower quality than other hotels. I would NOT stay here again."
