"The Upham absolutely charmed me, but I wish I could have rated my stay there as enchanted or excellent. The well maintained grounds and the historic Inn-like vibe is there, but the lack of basic amenities was disappointing. For example, no extra toilet paper stashed in the bathroom. No hair dryer. Maybe you need to ask for these. They do provide an iron/board, if you need it. I stayed in a standard King room which was a decent size, but the platform bed set-up was shoddy and looked real sloppy even while made up. The bed is so high that the night table lamp isn't high or bright enough to read in bed. The room had a musty smell, but you kinda get used to it. The bar and restaurant staff are great! The location is perfect for walking to State Street---one of the best reasons to stay at the Upham! Be prepared to find parking on the street cuz the hotel parking lot is essentially the ally behind the hotel with limited spots that are tight. There is free wine from 5p - 7p. The evening milk/cookie tray in the evenings is a sweet gesture, but you better like Oreos. Coffee and pastries in the morning in the lobby is always nice and welcome! They don't really have a water bottle refill station, but they do provide a small water carafe with paper cups, and they have bottled water available for $3. In spite of few crummy downsides, I would stay here again and would like to try one of the adorable-looking cottages."
