"This was absolutely one of the best stays I’ve ever had in Japan or any place else! The mom and daughter duo who run it are so sweet, helpful and genuine, the room was terrific, and breakfast delicious. The location is right where you want to be, within walking distance of lots of Nara sights and great food. I STRONGLY recommend staying at Matsumae Ryokan if at all possible."

"It’s a small inn but the location is excellent and the staff is endlessly helpful. The public bath is nice but like the private bath in my room was a little worn out and I can definitely see someone getting a splinter if they behave like a fools. The daily breakfast was a delightful spread of classic Japanese dishes and everyday a cup of tea and a snack was waiting for me when I got back in the from heat."

"This is a two star hotel at best. The pictures are a bit deceiving. The actual property itself is very unimpressive. Our room didn't have any views.
The price they demand is very high. I paid 150 per night but I can say it's not even worth $75 per night.
The check out time is 10AM. They want you to pay 3800 yen for additional hour.
They have Japanese hot tub. But you and your spouse can't use since men and women sections are separate. If you want to use together, they want you to pay....
