"Slightly faded in places and the exterior is in dire need of a refurb but that's a hazard of being so wonderfully close to the sea. The views are spectacular, the staff are friendly and it's a cosy place for a couple of nights exploring this gorgeous corner of coastal Suffolk.
The breakfast was delicious (apart from the coffee, which was weak and nasty. Why do hotels so often get coffee so wrong, it should be easy with a cafetiere). I had the full (and vast) English one morning, eggs Benedict the next, both freshly cooked to order and really tasty. The toast could have tried harder but with a breakfast that filling you don't need to worry too much about the toast. Curious unpredictability about timings though. The first morning, when we were on a schedule, breakfast was very slow. Happy to wait for food cooked to order, but less happy to wait the best part of 15 minutes to order it, especially after telling a passing member of staff that we were ready to order. The next morning, when we had time to linger, our order was taken almost before we sat down.
Adnams beer in the bar and a auper-friendly barman, retired but back to help out, happy to go on serving until late. The reception staff were also friendly and welcoming.
Prices here are a bit high for the slightly faded feel of the place, but this is Aldeburgh and they can obviously fill the rooms. But the staff seem genuinely keen to make sure you enjoy your stay, and waking up to that sea view is very special indeed."
