It was a beautiful place with a wonderful walk in closet. The breakfast offerings were delicious, especially the cookies by Butter and Champagne Bakery. I would stay again there in a heart beat.

The room is spacious, clean, and with private bathroom, stylish room design, very comfortable mattress. Vendors come home to make healthy fresh snacks, the owner get fresh fruits in the morning, has countertop water dispenser, friendly environment, guests have opportunities to set together to exchange travel experience during meal times

Great Location

Very dated, our room was clean, (musty odor) and location to Volcano Park was very close. Breakfast was great and host was very nice. The property really needs to be overhaled, window screens and windows need to be cleaned, new carpet on front steps replaced, mold on the outside of building, a paint job for sure is needed. Pictures on the website really need to be updated. Make sure you read the fine print about paying a cleaning fee upon check in, We paid and extra $90 + taxes.

Secluded spot, large rooms, helpful owner

The rooms are very large - I could easily have slept in the walk-in closet - and the kitchen on site was very convenient. The hotel is set back quite a ways from the road and the site is quiet. The owner was lovely and let me borrow a garden hose after our rental car got covered in volcano debris - very much appreciated, and definitely above and beyond!

This property is conveniently located near the national park, making it an excellent base for hiking and exploring. While the space was generally comfortable, there was a noticeable musty odour, which seems understandable given the damp climate around Volcano. The area and property itself offer limited amenities, including breakfast, so it’s important to come prepared. As such, I would recommend bringing your own essentials, as the property may not provide everything you might expect. Overall, it’s a solid choice for anyone prioritizing proximity to the park.

Eco friendly

The Volcano Forest House is beautiful nestled in the rainforest of Volcano National Park. The rooms were very spacious with lot of privacy. The kitchen accommodations exceeded expectations of a B&B. The owners were so welcoming to me and my son. We look forward to our next visit to the Big Island as this will be a base camp for all our Island adventures. Mahalo

Jon is AWESOME!!

Jon was very communicative and helpful!! The room was HUGE and just what we needed. We had the Ginger Room which had a nice lanai with sliding doors from the room. So glad we brought our groceries. We used the kitchen and coffee was available in the morning. Coin Laundry down the street. 10/10 I would definitely stay here again!!

The room was very dirty. The toilet brush was thrown inside the bathroom cabinet. There were only two lightbulbs in the bathroom. The hallway and bedroom is partially painted with paint blotches throughout. The refrigerator is rusted. The continental breakfast is basically fruit granola bars, weak coffee. The lights on our deck did not work Major potholes in the driveway.

Great location at great price

This property was in a super location and a great price right outside the gate of Volcano National Park as advertised. It was neat and clean for the most part but dated. Very quiet comfy large room. The zero human interaction check in and check out process was a bit dystopian and strange. did not feel very cozy or homey and felt like we were being watched remotely even though we probably werent. Never touched the food or kitchen because I didnt even really understand it. Felt more like a vrbo or air bnb and not sure if i would call it a hotel per se. thanks

Everything about Volcano Forest Inn is a scam. Please do your research before throwing your money away. Lack of hospitality, false advertising & a never ending list of rules with financial repercussions. PLEASE don’t support these places that are only in business for financial gain and nothing more. Do your homework before giving away your hard earned money.

Creepy place! Our room had a nauseous odor, whatever scent that was plugged into the bathroom outlet, only compounded the problem! The king bed was built only like they used, and should have been retired a long time ago! The matching pillow covers and bedspread looked like new, probably because they were never washed! Please smell before you lay your head down, there have been many people ahead of you that didn’t, I could smell them all! You’re warned!

My stay at the Volcano Forest Inn exceeded expectations. It was the perfect setting and quite the adventure driving in the light rain a few hundred yards down a dirt road surrounded by thick trees to finally arrive at this beautiful Inn nestled in the Volcano Forest. Jon texted very detailed instructions and information prior to my arrival which was very useful as well as welcoming. If I texted a question, he would promptly respond. Jon was there to greet me as I drove up and was very friendly and helpful. He showed me all of the amenities: an accommodating kitchen full of kitchenware, plenty of snacks, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, pasties, etc.; the living room with a flatscreen TV showing a live stream of the volcano; my room which was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Although all of the rooms were occupied, it was always quiet and peaceful. Not once did I encounter another guest while using the kitchen to get coffee and breakfast during my entire stay. It truly felt like I had the whole place to myself. Volcanoes National Park was minutes away and the close location made it very convenient for me to access the Park whenever the lava was flowing. I will stay at this beautiful, and serene Inn every time I visit the Big Island from south Maui. I was looking for peace and solitude and found it at the Volcano Forest Inn. Unforgettable experience!

The property is very basic. No glasses or tissues in the bathroom, although glasses are available in the shared kitchen. The host, Jon, is very friendly. The location, as shown on Google maps, is incorrect. Better instructions before arrival are essential. The beds are comfortable but the bedding is too heavy for the climate. This is an acceptable choice but is only okay, not great. $80 cleaning fee for a basic room is excessive.
