"I really enjoyed my experience at the Merchant Hotel. The room was super clean and well appointed. The shampoo and conditioner were fancy and smelled great. The room came with an espresso maker which is nice for some people, but I would have preferred a coffee maker. The location is great. Lots of restaurants and shops around and it was easy to get to the subway. There was one person at the front desk that was cheerful. The others weren't rude but just seemed indifferent. I'm from the South so I like a little chitty chat - I'm assuming this was just a New York way of life kind of thing."

"The room had a really weird, kind of toxic smell to it. I'm not sure if they just had an exterminator in, or if they regularly spray chemicals to disinfect the room or something, but I do not think it was healthy for me to be breathing in whatever was lingering in that room. It made me quite nauseous and made it difficult to be in the space. The window was also cut in two by a big slat of wall, so there was a weird barred window quality, with a sliver of window at the top and bottom, but most of the window replaced by wall. It is one of the cheapest accommodation options, but still quite expensive for what you get. If you can afford it, I'd pay a bit more for somewhere else."

"No staff to help bring luggage in our room. Front entrance door so heavy. There’s no accessibility service for handicap client. We asked for wheelchair but it’s only for inside the facility. Otherwise our stay was comfortable. The room was clean."

"Air con not working properly; finishes all fraying and worn; what seems to be non-compliant electrical setup (extension cord for appliances?); minimal low-quality bedding with no blanket/no extra warmth; minimal and threadbare linens, with very little supply in the basement (didn’t enjoy having to go to the basement to scrounge for supplies at $300 per night. Would not recommend to anyone over the age of 25"

"This hotel is in the best area, they have water bottles downstairs for guests and coffee (no coffee machine in room) We reqlly enjoyed the bar downstairs and the rooftop. Cons: the rooms are absolutely TINY!! lf you are sharing with another person you will feel them getting up out of bed. The bathroom door doesnt close tightly so be comfortable enough to use the toilet really close to your partner. "

"Lovely smart room. Can get a little noisy at night as seems to be a rooftop nightclub going on over weekend, take earplugs! Room did not get cleaned as the cleaners seem to come early evening when tend to be back to room freshening up! Friendly helpful staff! "
