"The first thing I found out was that the hotel didn't have an elevator. This was technically my fault because I didn't notice it on the website when I booked the room. I have COPD so any extra taxing climbing or exercise causes me to have trouble breathing, so that wasn't good. The front desk staff member was pretty friendly, so that was a plus, but the room was a bit gross in spots, the shower and bathroom weren't cleaned well before I checked in. As for any type of breakfast or food, it was a...

"The first disappointment was how close by the road was.It makes sense for an old hotel, but I found the constant noise and traffic unpleasant and certainly for sitting on the verandah. Also no breakfast is served which is mentioned on website though it definitely was not happening. And lastly I found it tacky to demand a dollar each for drinks in the beverage area.If it costs that much they could incorporate it in the room charge. It just seems unwelcoming"

"It was a real treat to stay at the Balsam Inn! The Inn is off the beaten path like I wanted and very very quite. Jenny is a warm welcoming host. She even upgraded my room just because it was available. The room itself was beautiful! It felt like I was a guest in someones Adirondack mountain home. Antique furniture, pines cones, snowshoes, layered bedding...like in an LLBean catalog. The bed was super comfy. I had a large screen TV and mini fridge in the room. Although there is a...

"Austin was an amazing host with great dining recommendations in the area, including Cooperstown and the surrounding smaller towns, which were surprisingly good. Breakfast included lots of cereal, fruit, yogurt and other cold options, but the highlight was Austin's awesome waffles, his specialty. His real specialty is his getting to know guest's names, home towns, etc. and his friendly manner that encouraged lots of conversation at breakfast. The rooms met my wife's high standard for...

"Did not stay once we saw the property......rooms and property very dirty, not maintained, management not available when we got there. Were charged the whole price since their policy is 24 hr advance notice. Photo online is NOT what we observed. I would never recommend this place to anyone. EXTREMELY disappointed. We were on our bikes and had to ride another 10 miles before we found another place to stay."
