Hotel El Icaco Tortuguero
10/10 Excellent
"We were four adults and a baby there for two nights in two rooms. We arrived earlier than expected and had to wait a little for the room, but they let us in as soon as it was ready. They were kind to make sure our rooms were next to each other. We were met at the parking in La Pavona and again getting off the boat in town. Great guidance each place so we never felt lost. Lady was very nice and met us at the hotel and explained everything to us and showed us to our rooms. They were very clean and beds were comfortable with the necessary amenities. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with several great options. We were made to feel at ease and served promptly. While they did have to do a repair while we were (on a roof across from us) they did it quickly and efficiently being careful to stop when we were passing by. The second night there was thunderstorm that caused a power outage in the whole town early evening. They kept us informed as to what happened and what to expect the rest of the night. We weren’t expecting them to serve breakfast due to no power, but they had it ready and waiting. We had no complaints or issues with the property or staff and were very pleased with our stay."
Mawamba Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"Nous sommes tombés en amour avec cet hôtel. Nous avions un bungalow avec air climatisé. Très utile car c'est chaud et humide en août. Nous avons vu des perroquets, des toucans et des singes hurleurs sur notre site. Nous avons aussi fait la sortie pour voir la ponte des tortues vertes. C'était vraiment super génial. Nous reviendrons certainement. La restauration est délicieuse. Tout était parfait."
Carey Lodging
10/10 Excellent
"It was a really nice basic motel where the staff were very friendly. It had what we needed as a family of 6."
Pachira Lodge
8/10 Good
"The hotel is close to the Tortuguero NP which means you will probably need to get a boat to get there. Once there it is a beautiful resort with a series of cabins connected by paths. The place is teeming with life. As soon as we arrived a group of spider monkeys started playing on the path to our cabin, right in front of us. You can book many activities at the front desk. We did the canal by boat, went to see the green turtles lay eggs at the beach and a night walk to spot some animals. They also have a large pool and restaurant and bars. The one reason why I am not giving it a top score is because the cabins were pretty basic. They were clean, but matresses could have been more comfortable. The bathroom had a shower with all the basic toiletries. There was no TV, fridge or air conditioning. Luckily for us, it was not extremely hot during our stay or otherwise it would have been impossible to sleep. On the plus side it had a small terrace where you could sit and enjoy the jungle around you. Breakfast was served everyday in the main restaurant. It was good and there was plenty to choose from, with cold and hot options. We had dinner in the restaurant as well. It was buffet style with a limited number of options to choose from, but enough for the two nights we spent there. Nevertheless, I think it is one of the best options to stay near Tortuguero and enjoy all the nature around you."
Hotel Tortuguero Beachfront
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed in the hotel as a party of six people with two teenagers sharing a room with two adults and two adults in a room on their own. The location was very good to be in the middle of the small resort. It is located about five minute walk from the jetty where the boat will leave you. The journey with our luggage was fine however it was not raining and on the return to the Boat at the end of our stay we paid a local staff member to take our luggage as it would’ve been difficult with elderly relatives. In hindsight, we should have left the majority of our luggage in our car parked and taken a small backpack with the clothes and items we needed as this was a short stay as part of our two week trip around Costa Rica. The staff wore meant many hats as it is a small resort and I would like to pay particular praise to Brian who was a young receptionist who spoke excellent English and was very clued up on the local area and resort. The rooms were basic and the Aircon was excellent. The showers were surprisingly good, but the pressure in the taps was poor, but it didn’t really matter as we tended to have showers at the end of the day and just use the tapwater for brushing teeth and washing hands after toileting. The breakfast once again was basic but sufficient. There was a selection of teas which was important with us being English and the coffee was very nice. I would recommend this as a good base for your trip around Tortuguero."

"Beautiful setting and extremely clean! The Hotel is very helpful over whats app. The buffet is tasty but quite basic. There is no AC in the rooms, just block a ceiling fan that wasnt very powerful- this was ok at night and we slept well but not very comfortable during the day. Overall a nice stay."
Hotel Serendipity tortuguero
10/10 Excellent
"The staff was amazing! Like unbelievably amazing! Greeted at the dock, luggage taken care of, greeted with fresh watermelon juice, chef cooked such delicious meals (dessert included), housekeeping cleaned 2-3 times a day, cooper hooked us up with tours, everything was great and relaxing. 3 minute walk to the beach, 5 minute walk to the national park, 5 minute walk to the village.
