"The staff were friendly and polite. The room was comfy. Location was great overlooking the market square. Breakfast was great, freshly cooked english breakfast plus continental choses. Would definitely stay again."

"En general my 2 nights were ok. There wasn’t a lift and my room was on 2nd floor, lots of steps! Shower unit didn’t have a hand support on the wall, important especially for older people."

"On arrival the staff were very helpful however when after being given our room we were appalled at the condition, especially the bathroom. The furniture was old and dated, the mattress and pillows hard, but it was the bathroom that dismayed us the most. There was black mold on the ceiling and extractor fan, the floor was uneven due to the lino was separating from the wooden floor. The taps on the sink needed replacing and the shower controls didn't work. To sum up the bathroom wanted gutting. After complaining and requesting another room we were told the hotel was fully booked but would be moved in the morning. The duty manager was very apologetic and we were offered a complimentary evening meal and drinks which didn't really compensate for the situation. The next morning we were moved to another room, a little better but not great. Wouldn't stay again or recommend."

" Very welcoming staff and pleasant hotel with beautiful surroundings. Elements restaurant is classy with a good menu. The Spa area is clean and the option to use the outdoor hydro pool is an added bonus (additional £20 pp for 2 hours) but on a sunny day is worth it. Parking is short walk away, but this is not an issue. "

"My friend and I had a girlie two night break at this hotel and loved it. When we arrived the receptionist noticed I was using a walking aid and unprompted started looking to change our room to an accessible room eliminating needing to use stairs. We were very touched by his thoughtfulness. It was an upgrade to a suite which was outstanding and it really enhanced our comfort and experience. We had a sitting room (with verandah) which was very comfortable and well equipped with a coffee maker, selection of high quality teas. There was a large bathroom and a super king size bed. Breakfast was nice, not outstanding but nice. The swimming pool was the big treat. Beautifully warm and the highlight of the stay. All the staff were very cheerful and friendly. This hotel is special and situated next to the Market Square which had lovely coffee shops, quaint shops and enticing pubs. Can’t wait to go back so thank you to all the staff especially Ali xxxxxx"

"We stayed in the Bootham suite, the room was light and airy and had a lovely small balcony to enjoy the sunshine. The four poster bed was very comfy and there was a small seating area to relax in. Breakfast was very good, everything is a la carte and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a great location, very easy walking distance into York but also very quiet and peaceful. The Pantry is a really nice touch but it was a shame that there wasn't a fridge in the room to keep drinks cool. The bathroom in the suite is not very private so you need to be comfortable with whoever you're sharing with!! It would also benefit from a bit more shelving around the sink as there wasn't much space to put anything. The toiletries were very nice and there was a lovely large bathtub and separate rainfall shower."
