- A plane ride can be a comfortable experience if you carry the right things. Firstly, you’ll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare set of clothes and a good book. Next, find a spot in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, your important medications and perhaps a neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel docs and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items can differ between airlines, the general rule of thumb is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, knives, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like bows and arrows, and objects that could harm other people, such as firearms and swords, can’t come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Layer up in breathable clothing and remember to pack a jacket in case it gets cold in the cabin. Opt for a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as it’s possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and hiking boots in your luggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-haul flights is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to wander around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another great idea to help lower your risk.
