Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you're well prepared. We've compiled a list of handy travel tips that will get your Stellenbosch holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a cruisy experience if you take the right gear. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare change of clothes and a magazine or two. Secondly, make room in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, your medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to bring your passport, travel documents and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Double-check that you don't have sharp or pointed objects lurking in one of the zippers of your carry-on luggage. Other banned items include explosive or flammable goods, such as fuel and fireworks, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3null4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of an airplane are no place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and remember to take a sweater as it tends to get cool inside the cabin on long-haul flights. Slightly roomy, flat shoes are also a wise idea.
- Most of us have heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There's lots you can do to lower your risk. Wear a good-quality pair of compression socks, drink lots of water often and keep your legs and feet moving. Walk around the cabin when possible or perform some simple exercises in your seat.
