Be AWARE It takes about a two hour drive to get there from the airport, with a price tag of $100, but once on the property you can see why they have good reviews. "I found my stay at Merrils 1 to be very good overall. The room I stayed in was right next to the kitchen and it was quite loud at times. The room was "updated" but the curtains, lamp shade and furnishings were a bit shabby. The staff was friendly although I still found some would take advantage given half a chance. The food was good. "Good spot for those on a budget but want resort feeling. They have the traditional rooms that's oceanside, and then you have the bungalows, which are more secluded but with the ambiance of the jungle. That's were we stayed. Our room was spacious, plenty of storage, beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean. The air-conditioned kept the room nice and chilled. They have an onsite gift store, restaurants and bar. Food was tasty. You can do buffet which changed daily or order something off the menu. Someone is alway at the lobby entrance to assist with crossing the busy road. I felt safe, was within a reasonable drive to the sandy beach. Samsara sister hotel was right on the beach and a shuttle was provided to and from for free. This was not my typical hotel esthetic as I normally stay in All inclusive modern hotels. I'm happy I gave it a try and would stay there again. It has a true Jamaica vibe for sure."

"First and foremost.I was drawn to the beach and the excellent concierge treatment by Mr. Tony (Montana)on a day visit. Attentive, safety, customer service and quality above standard were given to every guest on a continuous basis. You can tell when he leaves for the day.The quality is good but not great. On arrival and the entire time. I must say he was the best....taxi service and quality there and ready to help you at all times. The owner is a female that walks the premise and talk to guest..unheard of !!!!!. I am ready to go back on a longer trip next time .The only negative is the American food was disappointing burger fried chicken.Over all just short of perfect."

"It was a great location, for the fact that its was affordable and in a great location. However, it is not a beach front property. You have to walk across the street to the restaraunt to access the beach. Apart from that, the pool needed to be maintained more and we were not able to freely pick the trees or fruits on the property. However, great staff, very helpful and great internet access throughout the stay. Wish we had a TV in our room, good thing we brought entertainment of our own."

"My husband and I had an amazing time at Ocean Cliff Hotel Negril. Everyone was so kind, the rooms were clean, and the staff was extremely accommodating. The restaurant food was some of the best we’ve had in Negril! We will definitely be staying here again. It was quiet, peaceful, and so serene. The private beach and pool were absolutely amazing, and the view was truly out of this world."
