Where to stay in Edinburgh

Old Town Edinburgh
Old Town Edinburgh captivates visitors with medieval charm and Scottish heritage at every turn. Cobblestone streets wind past Edinburgh Castle and down the historic Royal Mile. Centuries-old tenements house traditional pubs where bagpipers perform and the aroma of whisky fills the air. The area offers world-class cultural experiences through its museums and the famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Explore hidden closes and wynds branching off the main thoroughfares. Most attractions sit within walking distance of Waverley Station, making this historic district easy to navigate.

New Town
New Town is Edinburgh's Georgian masterpiece where elegant crescents and symmetrical squares showcase some of Scotland's finest architecture. This UNESCO World Heritage site balances historic grandeur with contemporary luxury along George Street's upscale boutiques. Art enthusiasts will discover Scottish treasures at the National Portrait Gallery while history buffs can explore stunning 18th-century townhouses. The neighborhood's refined atmosphere continues with sophisticated dining and traditional pubs serving classic Scottish fare. Catch a tram at Princes Street or St Andrew Square for easy exploration. Charlotte Square's pristine gardens offer peaceful retreats from shopping adventures at nearby St James Quarter.

Leith
Leith blends maritime charm with artistic spirit in this historic port district of Edinburgh. The Shore area beckons with waterside pubs and scenic walkways along the Water of Leith. Once a working-class dockland, this area now buzzes with independent galleries and cultural venues. This distinctive enclave maintains its own identity separate from central Edinburgh. Travellers can explore the Royal Yacht Britannia or browse the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. Three convenient tram stops connect visitors to the city while preserving Leith's authentic waterfront character.

West End
Edinburgh's historic West End captivates with its Georgian terraces and Victorian mansions. Dean Village's stone bridges arch over the Water of Leith, creating postcard-worthy scenes. Culture thrives at the red sandstone Usher Hall, where classical concerts fill the evening air. Stroll through elegant streets lined with luxury boutiques and fine Scottish restaurants. The area balances upscale shopping with authentic local character just steps from Haymarket Station. Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens lie within easy walking distance from this refined district.

Stockbridge
Just north of Edinburgh's centre, charming Stockbridge feels like a village within the city. Georgian sandstone buildings and cobblestone lanes create a peaceful retreat from tourist crowds. The Water of Leith flows gently through the area, offering scenic walking paths. On Sundays, the local market buzzes with artisanal food vendors and vintage finds. Independent boutiques and cosy cafes line the streets. The Royal Botanic Garden sits nearby, perfect for nature lovers seeking a green escape.

Village Hotel Edinburgh
"Really clean room, staff very friendly"
Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket
"The hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk to Edinburgh downtown. The staff were friendly and the room was modern and clean. The restaurant is very over priced with disappointing food. I would recommend not to eat there, there are plenty of breakfast/coffee shops and restaurants in the neighborhood that are a better value."
Mount Royal Hotel Edinburgh by The Unlimited Collection
"Perfect location in Edinburgh! And the best helpful staff! Definitely would stay here again!"
Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo by IHG
"A Wonderful Four-Night Stay – Excellent Staff and Service We stayed at the Holiday Inn Edinburgh for four nights and had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Our room was clean, spacious and had a great view towards the Edinburgh hills. The location was perfect for us. Several bus stops nearby offer frequent services into Edinburgh city centre, and the airport link bus also stops on the main road in front of the hotel. Despite the convenient location and nearby roads, we didn't find the room noisy at all and slept well throughout our stay. We also made good use of the hotel's facilities. The swimming pool was clean and, although not particularly large, was more than enough to keep us active while travelling. We especially appreciated that the pool stayed open until quite late, which suited us very well compared with some other hotels we have visited. The gym was also good. We had a pub meal at the hotel. The food was straightforward, good-quality pub food, but it was very well prepared and enjoyable. Most importantly, the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful, and the whole atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming. I would particularly like to praise the hotel team for their help after our stay. Unfortunately, I left my business phone at the hotel, which caused me quite a panic when I realised. A big thank you to the whole team, especially for the excellent help in getting my phone back!"
Moxy Edinburgh Airport
"Very clean room with lots of amenities. Friendly staff and large downstairs seating area with a full bar"
Apex Waterloo Place Hotel
"The location was perfect with their being a hop-on, hop-off bus stop directly across the streets, the royal mile within close walking distance, and a major car rental close by as well. Everything was nice overall at the hotel as well and the food/drinks served are of good quality though a bit pricey."
Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh
"The gym was good. Staff helpful & room was comfortable with nice bedding. Very close to the castle since we were attending the Royal Tattoo & was walking distance."
CODE - The Court, Edinburgh
"The staff was great! They were very hospitable and helpful. They made your stay wonderful. They also may many events having at the CODE. The C.O.D.E is convenient to everything..museums, shopping, Mary Kings Close, the Lost Close and many restaurants and pubs. The location is next to St Giles cathedral on the Royal Mile...I would diffently stay there again."
Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel
"The hotel was nice. The location was great especially if you're there for Fringe. It's very centrally located. There are only like 6-7 parking spots available which was a bit difficult. They did tell me when I checked in that their guests can park at the other Apex hotel that is a minute walk away, but I didn't know that beforehand."
