"100% authentic experience. Huge rooms, my had separate toilets, wash basins and bath. Exceedingly polite and helpful service. I enjoyed yhebKaiseki for 4 days but wife didn't - so you are literally a stones throw to Nishiki + loads of other place nearby. I also enjoyed the public bath, very clean and organised. The futons were so comfy that we are looking for the same to buy. Just decide if kaiseki is your thing, but other than that no hesitation to book again."

Breakfast was good and sufficient. CONS: Before you can enter this ryokan, you have to remove your shoes and put on their slippers to walk to your room. These are not disposable slippers, and these are used by all guests. I did not like sharing the slippers with other guests, as this is very unhygienic,...

"I stayed for 2 nights and loved every moment at the hotel. Every staff member I met were so incredibly nice and welcoming and even gave me an umbrella when I checked out as it was raining which I wasn't expecting at all (thank you for the gentleman that gave it to me on check out, saved me from getting wet going to the store to buy one!) The room was so nice and it really felt like I was staying in a traditional inn. Thank you to everyone for making my stay so comfortable. Worth every penny."

"This 115 year old ryokan was absolutely gorgeous. The room was beautiful and very clean. The staff were so kind and welcoming, ensuring that everything I needed was taken care of. If you are visiting a don’t speak Japanese fluently, they speak English as well. The breakfast was absolutely amazing too! I cannot stress how much I recommend staying here. I personally loved the “chrysanthemum room” (Kiku) since I was directly in front of the garden."
