"For a little hotel in a little town it was fantastic. Clean and friendly and most importantly it was quiet even with it being next to the interstate. "
"The room was huge with two Queen sized beds. It had a refrigerator and microwave and desk and huge TV screen. Continental breakfast but with waffles and cereal. Great place to stay."
Hotel Grinnell Downtown, an Ascend Collection Hotel
6/10 Okay
"It was really cold, and I didn’t realize I needed to use a space heater. It was tucked away in the room and no one mentioned that there was no central heat. Also very loud and echoey, as you’d imagine from an elementary school. But it was really interesting architecturally. "
"Not exactly as pictured...
Cons:
First, we were disapointed when we found out we were not in the main building and instead in a seperate building from the front desk, breakfast and pool. With 3 kids, one infant and in the winter - it was inconvenient to have to fully dress in coats/clothing between the room and the pool for the walk outside. Second, the room was not up to our standards. The bathroom was very very tiny and the toilet wobbled when you sat on it. There were cords running under the carpet and it wasn't well thought out with outlets or design. Lastly, we were frustrated with how both the breakfast and the main areas were maintained. Both mornings we were they, they ran out of plates where we had to find the front desk person and ask her to stock more plates. The bathroom off the lobby and the pool were also out of soap and towels (gross). And lastly, the pool was NOT as advertised. There was no hot tub and the room itself needed attention. The ceiling was dripping with condensation, there were ants and standing water puddles (we were the only guests in there). Overall - I suggest you skip this place and instead visit the country inn down the road.
Pros:
The layout of the room was nice with kids, we had a bedroom that was connected to a living area, the room also had a mini fridge and microwave which was nice. When asked if we could have a late check out - it was granted without issue. "
