Extremely helpful staff, good value for price

Having read other reviews, I can only conclude that things have changed since they were written (and the worst was written 3 years ago, so this is highly possible). This hotel is NOT dirty. It is clean. It is however, a little tired, but there is a big difference between tired and unclean. This is reflected in the price! You're not going to get the Ritz for the this price, so don't expect it! No major facilities, however the big plus point was the unflagging helpfulness of the staff. Their service and friendliness went above and beyond what could be expected, or that I have experienced at other hotels. In response to some older reviews, I would like to add that internet did work in the room, at all times. There were enough towels, and the place was clean. Not pretty, but clean. If you want somewhere flashy with lots of mod cons, don't book here (but don't expect the same price, either). If you don't mind decor that's a little old, but value friendly and personable staff, and want a budget stay close to both the pretty town of La Penne and the autoroute with easy access to the coast and Marseille, then it does the job very well indeed. I would stay here again. I would also add, to the reviewer back in 2009, despite the name, the address is shown when booking, so it's best to check the location of your hotel before booking.

Stars Motel Marseilles

The whole place was very dirty. I immediately picked up the bedspread and blanket from the bed and took it to reception, telling them I would not stay more than the one night. The carpet was visibly filthy, windows dirty with hand and face prints, curtains dirty and dusty. The shower and toilet seat were broken. Cigarette burns were on all the furniture and toilet. The shower was dirty and broken, as was the toilet seat. The plastic cup, which should have been sealed in plastic, had actually been washed (?) and replaced in the bag; there were water spots on this supposedly brand new cup. There was only one towel for 2 people. This was the most miserable place I have ever been, and not anywhere near Marseille or the airport I wish I could give negative stars; you forced me to give it one in order to complete this survey. I would not give it any.
