Good free japanese food buffet for breakfast! The hotel is literally right next to Matsumoto Station. Good restaurants in neighborhood, easy 10-12 minute walk to Matsumoto Castle. The reason not 5 stars is cuz room is super small even for Japanese rooms or maybe it was the layout that made if feel smaller than the other hotels I stayed in.
It was a very busy hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful and amazing with our requests as well as our early arrival for storing the luggage for the afternoon. Well done!
This a clean and convenient property. Close to Matsumoto Station as well as things like a convenience and grocery stores. Not deluxe, but great if you’re on a budget,
The rooms were very clean and the location was excellent. We were a short walk from the train station and also a nice walk to the Matsumoto Castle. The only negative experience was the free breakfast which was styrofoam dinner trays, individually wrapped croissants and a Japanese style breakfast which we did not find appetising. We did not participate and ate elsewhere.
The hotel stay comes with complimentary japanese style breakfast. if u are in rush and need to grab and go there is some breads available. The hotel is opposite the alpico bus terminal (with supermarket, pharmacy and convenient shop) and within short walking distance from jr station. Lots of food options if u are willing to take a short walk from the hotel.
Wonderful stay with a good variety for breakfast. Location is very walkable to public transportation (3 mins), convenience stores, and restaurants. Grocery store is right across the street. Attractions are also close by (15-20 mins. walk). Room was cozy/tight with a little space for carry-on luggage. Beds have an extra firm mattress. Check-in/out was easy with friendly and polite staff available to greet and assist.
I understand Toyoko Inns are not five star luxury hotels but I was still a tiny bit disappointed at how basic the facilities were. The room was tiny but they made good use of the space. The breakfast buffet was very basic but decent and free so what can you expect? Ultimately, the hotel was cheap and it had a great location only a block from the main train station.
One tip, there is a food hall right in front called Tsunagu Yokocho. I knew about it from a YouTube video and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was just steps away from our front door. It contains about ten or twelve little restaurants but unlike a food court like we might find in the US, each establishment has its own seating. The place is beautifully decorated with a lively, upbeat atmosphere. It turned out to be one of our best meals in Japan!
Clean, quiet, and convenient location. Most importantly, the quality of bed is amazing. I always suffer from bad jet lag for at least first few days after arriving from east coast (US), this is a first night I was able to sleep straight for 7 hours! The room was more spacious than one in Tokyo where I spent before coming to Matsumoto. Free delicious Japanese style breakfast which I am very happy with. Certainly it worths the price. The only problem I had was the room was not available until 4 pm. I had to change my clothes in the rest room and missed one hour nap. Nevertheless, I liked this place and will be back again when I am visiting Matsumoto next time.

Liked: Cleanliness
From beginning to end, our stay was pretty much a disappointment. There was no check-in before 4 pm (the latest check-in time I have ever heard of!), and there was no wiggle room in slipping in earlier (except if one was a member of their hotel group, then 3pm was agreeable—at a membership application cost of 1500 Yen!). The room was tiny, even by Japanese standards, the bed was hard as a board, the pillow was stuffed with I don’t know what, but it was oversized and also hard to be serviceable, and the staff were lukewarm at best in dealing with guests. The place was quiet (not many guests, though, to judge that fairly), the hot water was good and hot for a shower at the end of a cold and busy day, and the location was excellent and easy to find in relation to the train station. Would we stay here again if we were in the area? To be perfectly candid, it’s highly doubtful, and there are a number of lodging alternatives in the area to be considered.
