"I appreciated the convenience of this hotel, but it is not the type of accommodation I would choose to stay at again. The room was very small and uncomfortable, and there was a noticeable urine-like odor. It was clear that the room had not been cleaned thoroughly, as the smell was quite strong. I believe the shower curtains may be the source of the odor and should be replaced. I also had to request that my room be cleaned, which gave me the impression that housekeeping may only service rooms after guests check out. On a positive note, the front desk staff were accommodating and had no issue moving me to a different room when I requested one. The air conditioning, heating, and hot water all worked well. Since I am familiar with the area, parking was not a problem for me; however, guests who are unfamiliar with the neighborhood may find parking frustrating and difficult to navigate."

"The Lucerne has nothing to offer except its location. Because there are so few hotels on the Upper West Side, they can get away with charging very high fees for no amenities and ugly decor. There are only two elevators (which the staff also use when cleaning, etc.), so you often have to wait for 10-15 minutes for an elevator at busy times of day. My husband has Parkinson’s, but the room we were given had no handicap-accessible features. There was one grab bar in the bath, but it was so low that it was useless to him when he tried to take a shower. The toilet is also so low to the ground that it looks like a child’s toilet. When we checked in, the person at the front desk was unfriendly, unsmiling, and uncaring. The only bright spot was the doormen, who were lovely to us and consistently kind to my husband, helping him up and down the stairs from the hotel to the sidewalk. (That’s right — no ramp at all. The hotel is not ADA-compliant.)"

"The location is excellent. You can walk to the train or subway you need to get to any part of NYC and the LaGuardia Airport. Staff was always friendly and helpful. I visited the top floor outdoor patio every night during my stay. Best value for the price."

"The staff were friendly and professional. My room was very clean and neat. Compliments to your Housekeeping department. The patio was very nice. I look forward ro visiting again when there is a breakfast and lunch served, and the pool is ready for use. The neighborhood felt safe."

"Really charming place with lovely staff and a delightful cafe for breakfast coffee and croissants. My room was perfect, small but well appointed with desk and chair, lovely bed, vintage dresser, very comfy towels and linens and pillows. A/C & heat were easy to adjust; shower was piping hot, luxurious. Room overlooked enclosed courtyard garden, so it was quiet and pretty to look out into trees. Slept like a dream. Highly recommended."
