"Spectacular views from a mountaintop historic lodge. Restaurant on sight, great breakfast included in room price. Somewhat rustic, very quiet. Beautiful location to clear your mind and soul."
"I loved having the amm3nties like the porch n being adjacent to the lake. The boats available anytime for use. A fireplace, grills for use anytime. The room is had had a kitchen which made life easier. The place was immaculate. Im looking to go back again next year."
"The Balsam is located in a scenic spot in the southern Adirondacks where, due to the remoteness and the topography, there is no cell service but there is WiFi at the lodge.
The night we stayed, we were the only guests which concerned me because, with Jenny being so engaging and friendly, I really want this venture to be a success for her.
We arrived during a grey afternoon when the sporadic rain caused mist to shroud the evergreens of the forest where the inn sits and, during the evening, my partner and I lay on the soft mattress of our room and listened to the rain falling on the roof, the hypnotic sound of which lulled us into a deep slumber.
By morning, the rain had moved east but we decided against biking the nearby trails because, being senior citizens, the risk of falling in the remote mountains was all too real and daunting but we appreciated that the opportunity was offered to us.
Jenny had set out breakfast for us which included a selection of natural cereals, fruit, English muffins and really decent coffee.
We circled the breakfast area, admiring Jenny’s photographs - she is an artist with the rare talent of capturing landscapes in an idolized fashion such that it brings the viewer into the narrative with a bit of awe and, perhaps, a longing for the tranquility engendered by the rounded hillocks and the placid waters. She has a gift."
"Lovely place to stay. Confusion over breakfast which was not provided that morning was fixed with a refund. Got lucky the restaurant which according to the website was supposed to be open and wasn’t, actually had the chef in house so we did have dinner. Food was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend staying here when restaurant is open."
"The location really makes the property. Incredible lakefront on Forth Lake. It’s an older building so no refrigerator or microwave in your room limited air-conditioning. Fans were provided. The lake breeze really made it pleasant. I had dinner two nights on the porch. The food was fabulous."
