This hotel was very relaxing. It did not have the variety or quality of food that other riu brand hotels have had, but there was always enough to eat. The mattresses are hard, but the room is clean, spacious and well-maintained. The drinks were good, the shows were cheesy, and there were activities to do. There was always lots to do despite the resort being small. They have the kids club there, but kids would likely be bored. The shuttle to the beach club was convenient, and the drivers are very friendly. It stops at a central location, so you can walk into Playa del Carmen, and then at the pathway down to the beach beside the Riu Palace. Even on March Break, we found enough loungers by the beach (except for one day) and by the quiet pool to sit. There are some pretty cool Mayan ruins along the way, which makes for a nice walk. All in all, we had a nice time.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Riu Lupita! The staff was awesome—friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. The hotel was extremely clean, which we really appreciated. We loved the main pool and bar, and there were so many fun activities to enjoy. The beach club was also a highlight with a beautiful setting and delicious food. We enjoyed all the restaurants at the resort. My favorite was the buffet. There was always something new and delicious to choose from at all meals. I do wish they had a late night option to get snacks besides just the bar being open 24/7 for drinks. The only downside was how humid the room felt—everything had a bit of a damp feeling, though we understand that may be due to the climate. The bed was also a bit firm for our liking, but when we requested a mattress topper, they brought one right away and it made a big difference. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely return—next time maybe earlier in the year when it’s a little less humid!

If you want a lounge minimal hotel activity experience and don’t mind families being there then this place will be great for you! As a younger solo traveler I found the resort to offer minimal fun activities and found myself going off the resort more often than I expected. Overall not a bad hotel, staff are friendly, rooms are good. I did have a slight issue with the store at the hotel and because of this I missed my shuttle transportation to the airport when checking out, however the staff was kind about it. I was definitely upset about that experience but again overall experience was a 7/10.

Loved my stay the staff was super friendly. Although, the property bed was more on the firm stiff side and the shower temperature was set on cool vs hot. Most of the staff were very nice. There were a few bartenders who mocked me for my Spanish speaking efforts. The beds were rock hard, like sleeping on the floor. The food options between breakfast and dinner were VERY limited. The wildlife on property was a nuisance—an infestation if you will. There is a shuttle to the beach, that runs every 30 minutes, so that was nice.

Do not believe the pictures online! I have stayed at different Riu hotels and Lupita is by far the worst one! I expect better quality when staying at the Riu. Check in was easy. Room looks old and dated. The bathroom was nice. Various animals all over the place. The animas roam around all over the property. The pool was ok. The Riuland kids club was closed my entire stay so my son didn’t get to enjoy it. The animals are all around the pool all day. If you leave your drink or food unattended the animals will grab it. They can climb and will jump on your table to get food. No activities dyeing the day even though it is advertised. The evening entertainment was good, I’ll give them credit for that. The buffet restaurant food is horrible! Limited options and the same food everyday. The evening Maria Bonita restaurant was great. Fresh food cooked to order. Alcohol is generic brand and it very good, so don’t be expect great hard liquor. Staff is very friendly and nice! I will never stay at this hotel ever again. Riu should close this hotel so they don’t hurt their brand. Again, I have stayed at Riu hotels all over the world and normally have an excellent time. This Riu was so bad, I left a day early and I have never ended my vacation early.

I recently stayed at this hotel resort and had a mixed experience. On the plus side, the service was amazing from start to finish. We received a welcome drink, and the guest services team was super helpful. However, the food was just okay - nothing spectacular. One thing to note is that the resort isn't directly on the beach, and you'll need to catch a shuttle that runs on a limited schedule. The pool was nice, but the hours were restricted, and I wished it was open 24/7 with swim-at-your-own-risk signs. The rooms were clean but basic, and the beds were extremely hard - almost rock-hard. The bathrooms were decent, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the pros outweighed the cons for us, but I’d recommend being aware of these details before booking. I met some great people while traveling here. I would book again if needed to make a last minute trip.

We have a lovely stay at RIU Lupita the food and drinks are delicious the best you can get, the beach club is so nice and the beach with palms is the best you can get so perfect the staff at this hotel are outstanding 1000 point from us

Even though it isn't a water front property, it is an excellent budget option, food and drinks are excellent - RIU standard across all properties, staff is super friendly and hard working. This is our second stay there and we'll come back.
