The Barbican is a lovely area. I always thought that Plymouth had been destroyed during the war, but there is still a lot of history. The Royal William yard is also worth a visit, as the old Georgian naval buildings have been repurposed.

It's a nice city with sea and moors very close by. City centre is being upgraded but has all the shopping you would expect from a large city, with the historic Barbican and its eclectic shops and wide range of eating options.

The traffic system isn't the easiest to get round if you aren't familiar with it. The Box Museum is well worth a visit and the various former dockyard areas are well worth a look too. We enjoyed our time there.

Plymouth City Centre is at present being renovated and should hopefully improve with time. A walk though up to the Hoe and around by the Barbican is very pleasant with coffee shops dotted around to sit down, relax and enjoy the scenery.

Recommend a boat trip from the Barbican across to Cremyll and especislly the Sunday roast at the Edgecombe Arms!
