Onyado Nono Nara Natural Hot Spring

"This is NOT a 5-star hotel. It is a 8-star hotel! 1) Super clean. Guests leave their shoes at the reception. You wear socks or go bare feet everywhere in the hotel, including the restaurant. 2) Indoor and outdoor onsen with natural spring water. And sauna too. 3) Free use of the massage chairs. Although only 2, I never had to wait long. 4) Free ice cream all day long and free dispenser drinks after 8.30pm. Free ramen supper after 9.30pm. 5) 3 washing machines (free) + 3 dryers (nominal fee) 6) Convenient location right opposite Nara station and walking distance to shops and eateries. 7) Fab breakfast buffet. Mainly Japanese. 8) Staff do not speak much English but they are very helpful."

"2 year old hotel conveniently located close to the city hall. Modern and comfortable, quiet as well. The breakfast was consistently crowded but that is due to Silver Week. Really helpful staff. The price of the breakfast was not included for our child and we found it somewhat over-inflated at 23,000 yen per day as a half-price. Would recommend."

Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi

"This is a good hotel, but I would not reccomend it for occidental travellers. Pros: Convenient walkable location. Very spacious and clean room. Convenient lunch/coffee room with free coffee, water, ramen and teas. Japanese breakfast delivered to room (no option for continental breakfast). Need to schedule breakfast time. Coin laundry machine in basement (just 1). Japanese Spa (did not use it) Cons: Very uncomfortable japanese mattress. Shower stays on for 30 sec at a time (need to keep pushing the handle to restart - not terrible / just inconvenient) Noisy in the middle of the night. The Starbucks downstairs gets a vehicle around 4 am and it gets loud moving stuff for a about 20 min. The nearby temple gong sounds 6 times at 6 am. There are no curtains. There is too much light in summer mornings after 6-7 am. The TV is very old. no possibility to beam your device or use apps like Netflix. Bring an HDMI cable if you want to connect your laptop."

"This was my favourite place we stayed on our trip so far. It was so quiet and peaceful both in the hostel and the neighbourhood. It’s about a 20 minute walk to get to Nara Park and you’re likely to run into some deer on your way there as they tend to come right into town in addition to hanging in the park. There are laundry facilities and a smoking area in the back garden. Rice porridge is served each morning and there are free and paid beverages available. There was no staff on site due to the financial repercussions of the pandemic, but the autonomous luggage storage and check-in instructions were easy to follow. I will definitely be returning in the future!"

"Beautiful location, amazing hotel - the rooms were clean, well appointed - live the bathrooms setup - bed super comfortable. We ordered breakfast for the second night - yummy Japanese meal set. This was our favorite hotel in our stay, well appointed hope to return. You need a car because it is remote from public transport, plenty of free parking at the same level as hotel. The staff was wonderful! This place is well worth a journey!"
