"When I got to the location, it came out that my reservation was for the wrong day, but before we even figured that out, the night staff could not get on the computer without calling and getting help he could not figure out how to use his own system he had to have somebody over the phone talking him through how to use it and then when it came out that it was the wrong day due to an issue with a third-party app. I asked if we could change it because it was past midnight to the current day and we stay that night. He would not do it. He refused to let me do it that way because it was past the night, which the app was willing to let me switch it to the 15th and let me stay there, but he was not, and then they would refuse to give me back my money. He sided the app and he could not give the money back because of the app. The app said that they had to go to the owner and the owner had to decide. He said he was the owner. The owner said it was the app fault we could not get our money back. The app said it was his fault. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel would not recommend anybody else. Staff is terrible and management is terrible."
"Motel 6 in Marshalltown, Iowa was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had.
When you arrive, there is no staffed front desk. Instead, you’re greeted by security cameras and a sign telling you to call the front desk number. A man answered with “What do you want?” instead of anything remotely welcoming. After standing in a hot, non-air-conditioned lobby for about five minutes, he drove up from another location and checked us in.
The room itself was barely acceptable. There were holes in the walls, cigarette burn holes in the bedspread, dirty surfaces that clearly hadn’t been wiped down, and only two tiny pillows on the bed. My wife asked for two more pillows and was initially told no, despite the motel appearing nearly empty.
Eventually he brought two larger pillows and came into the room to look at the issues. His response was basically, “It is what it is.”
The shower curtain rod is mounted so poorly the curtain sticks to you while showering. There was no shampoo provided, just two tiny soap bars. One towel even had stains on it. I also killed two spiders during our stay.
To be fair, the TV, mini fridge, and air conditioning worked.
But there are absolutely no amenities here. No coffee, no breakfast, and no hospitality. At nearly $90 after taxes, this felt like a $40 roadside motel at best. This is exactly the kind of experience that gives older budget hotels a bad reputation."
"We have stayed here several times over the years during family reunions at Camp Pine Lake. The motel is consistently clean and comfortable. I noticed the bathroom had been upgraded since our last stay.
I was especially grateful to the staff this year for kindly mailing to me an item I had forgotten after our stay. They go above and beyond to provide excellent guest service."
"Great breakfast was definitely more than most hotels everything was great! The bathrooms could use a little face lift but still clean and comfortable. Nice gym with an attached Mexican restaurant"
"The room was clean and the air was cold, but the water pressure isn't the best. The bathtubs need to have some anti slip grips put in them as a little soap makes them slick."
"I stayed for one night just passing through Iowa. I am a clean freak and happy to say my room was spotless. The bed was comfortable, the hotel was clean and unique. It is not typical, meaning there was no front desk. I arrived just before 9pm, I was given the keys by the restaurant workers who were very friendly and polite. Not sure how that would work after closing, but I'm sure they have a method. Overall, nice stay. "
