"Great hotel. The location is fantastic, the staff go above and beyond. A favourite spot for a getaway with opportunity to walk, visit High Force waterfall, have a drink in the cosy bar and dine in the elegant dining room. Breakfast was great - the food is obviously local and fresh."

"No evening meal due to chef needing time off, staff seemed to have no idea what was happening. Only food available in the area was pizza at a hostel across the road.
Breakfast room opened at 8:30 and consisted of help yourself Coco pops, croissants or toast, if you had an early start, nothing.
Overall a very poor experience."

"Pub was dated, and our room had a shower/toilet in a pod, so read the small print when booking. The pod was extremely small with little room to manoeuvre and the extractor fan did not work. Also music could be heard in our room from downstairs. The positive is the shower was warm, the staff extremely friendly and the breakfast good. Also the local clientele were warm, friendly and welcoming"

"All good, nice clean room, good selection of beers and wine, decent area outside if weather permits, and a very enjoyable meal in the evening.
The village itself is very quiet, but would certainly recommend if looking for an overnight stay to break up a journey north or south."

"Just fantastic! Do note that though it is a true castle, not all the rooms are in the castle, so do check if you are staying in the castle or what is the rooms called Castle View. I believe they were a long time ago the servant quarters, BUT don't let this dissuade from staying here. IT IS A CASTLE! The staff was extremely polite and funny.
