"What a magical 2 night stay! Surpassed expectations. Room was A*, clean and spacious. The castle was elegant and homely. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Food was exceptional also. Would highly recommend and will certainly visit again! "

The pub itself is gorgeous, decorated beautifully, it is cosy and inviting and located in a lovely spot by the stream.Although the actual car park itself was small this was no problem as we parked literally a couple of minutes away on the lane, perfect as it allowed the opportunity to see a tiny red squirrel busy in a nearby tree. "The Inn is perfectly located for enjoying Kirkby Stephen. The staff - especially Jacqui - is super helpful and kind. Really enjoyed our brief time there. Our friends who stayed down the street were wishing they had booked here. Be prepared to carry luggage upstairs and know the bed isn’t super big by American standards. "

Stayed for evening meal and it was excellent one of the best meals I have had at a restaurant. Breakfast excellent freshly cooked to order. "Bathroom was filthy and covered in white powder (possibly plaster dust). Reported it but staff took no action which was very disappointing, especially considering the high cost of the room. Very understaffed and overall poor value for money. Which if booked somewhere else in hindsight as I've stayed in far better lake district hotels for less money."

"Staff were friendly and helpful. Convenient car parking. Our room was a good size but very tired decor, dust/cobwebs hanging from ceiling, bathroom very old fashioned and in serious need of modernisation. The bedroom (Room 9) overlooked a noisy courtyard and there was music playing until at least 11pm. Breakfast was very good.
