View north-east from the public footpath at the head of the valley. A building of many parts, which has been developed from the original Knights Templar preceptory which was here in 1189. The cloister on the right leads from the formal gardens to the mainly 14th century chapel of St John of Jerusalem on this side of the building at the centre of the picture. The main part of the huge manor house behind is 16th century. "Great place to stay, especially with the dog. Fabulous walking right from the pod door. The pods are great, all clean, the double bed is definitely cosy but their description of the pod on the website is accurate, it is basic but they never profess to be anything else. Barbecue in front of each pod is great, we cooked supper and breakfast on it, for all you carnivores, the butcher in Fownhope is fabulous. If you just need a base to chill out in, this is absolutely perfect."
