Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've planned ahead. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Southampton escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane trip can be easy if you carry the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want some basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a spare change of clothes and something to read. Next, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, your important medications and maybe a proper neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to bring your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp or pointed objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosols and poisons, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your top priority is to be as comfortable as possible. Go for shoes that are easy to slip on and off, dress in loose, natural fibers and remember to bring a jacket in case you get chilly in the cabin.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.
