"Very clean, sweet, old timey but not depressing room. No view (unless you count the fire escape), window unit AC which we didn't use but would blow directly into one of the two beds. Claw foot bathtub shower with a curtain that feels a bit like a shroud surrounding you. Breakfast was just ok, dry scrambled eggs, a glacial paced toaster, but it's more than continental. The lobby, bar, elevator and hallways are charming and the staff is terrific. If you can get a room at the right price, book it. "

"We lived this quaint hotel! It self homey and like we were in the past. Cozy fireplaces and cookies and brandy at 4pm. So fun!"

"The room was spacious and clean! Bedding was very nice and comfortable. The location was central and close to the Opera House which was the reason for our visit. We did have a hard time finding a restaurant close by after the performance and ended up eating next door to the hotel at Mel's. Not exactly a meal to remember but it honestly wasn't bad. Parking garage was very convenient and dare I say affordable at $49 with in/out priledges. I would definitely stay at the Courtyard location again! "

"Centrally located in the heart of Japantown you can get almost anywhere in San Francisco with a short bus ride. The hotel was quiet and comfortable, super friendly staff. We will definitely be staying here again for our future visits. "

"I stayed at Proper Hotwl last night and couldn’t be happier. The hotel is very stylish, artistic, and spotless. I really liked the Aesop brand amenities, the shampoo, creams, and hand wash were a nice touch. The rooftop bar Charmaine’s is one of my favorite spots in San Francisco, with great vibes and charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and overall, it was a fun and pleasant stay."
