Avoid!!! Do not book here!!!
Made the booking, arrived and the building was boarded up. Called and no one picked up. The hotel took full payment when we made the booking. They didn't call and refund the money and explain that they were closed. We are now having to go through Hotels.com as they will not pick their calls up to provide a refund. We were lucky to be able to find another hotel on the night, but could have been different and at the moment we are out of pocket. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

The room was lovely,but there was a constant noise like a generator so we didn’t sleep well.Food was very tasty.

TLC needed
Very friendly staff. Good food quickly served. The hotel needs quite a lot of TLC it’s rather tired. The room we had booked had a plumbing problem, things happen and we were warned the day before but the first substitute was really rather grotty .The second was much better. We have stayed there twice before but the hotel needs to improve itself. The staff are lovely and helpful and some cash spent would reward their hard work

Last minute booking
Service in the bar was great. The food was delicious, but the room was very tired. The carpets were dirty and the bathroom looked as if it was half finished, and no working fan meant condensation was running down the bare walls.

Lovely old building and setting. Food was good, standard pub menu. Room was very clean, nice extras like bottled water, bathroom particularly was quite tired decoration wise, and shower over bath sadly did not work properly. It was a very cheap room though and booked last minute, so good value for money.

The bar and restaurant area was cosy and warm and tastefully decorated. The bedroom and bathroom was fine for the star rating. Bed was comfy.

Not particularly impressed.
Felt hassled by owners to arrive, as they wanted to close early, even though it’s a pub. Even though we were caught up in Storm Ciara, we had around 6 calls. Hotel was ok, but, the toilet wasn’t fastened to the floor, resulting in my colleague spraining his ankle.

Lovely old coaching house
Lovely old coaching house built by a village green with a stream & village pond Loads of character & history including the old village firestation museum next door. Don't expect ultra modern decor because its an old building but is kept well. The staff were great. I can't remember tha lady behind the bar but she runs the place well. Note though the bar closes early during the week & 11pm at weekends.

How not to run a hotel
Can i get my money back? How not to run a hotel. Has the owner ever slept in room 9? Suggest they give it a go and then either sort it out or lock and throw away the key. Need to re-energise the staff to try to give the impression they care.

liked the look of the building from the outside. Inside dirty carpets poor quality food not even a towel in the room to dry ones self with and bed like getting into a crisp pack with because of the poor quality mattress protector.

Our stay was overall good. Hotel clean but needs updating. Breakfast excellent and value for money very good. Staff very friendly and good.

The food quality varied between poor and adequate. Cooked breakfast was not available on Monday although the hotel literature said it would be. The chambermaid was absent on at least one occasion. There were too many mistakes in serving meals - cold food, wrong dish served, poorly cooked. The bathroom mirror was mounted at 180 degrees to the basin - shaving was awkward to say the least. On the plus side, bar staff, waitresses and reception staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful.

Unfortunately didn't get to experience anything other than checking in on account of the door being locked upon return after night out. Was left a key for rear entrance as pub shuts at 11pm, was back shortly after 12 to discover a broken lock meant I couldn't get in. No emergency number to call, and no onsite presence meant a less than enjoyable experience. Luckily, I used to live in the area and an ex neighbour was able to put me up for the night. Not happy to say the least.

Average food.
The hotel looked great from the outside but evening staff and a very average meal left us disappointed.The bed was very springy and uncomfortable.However our breakfast server Connor was very amiable and could not have been more efficient.It was a cheap hotel so I expect you get what you pay for.

Nice hotel in a pretty location.
The hotel is set in a nice location. The staff were excellent as was the food. The bedroom and bathroom were basic and decor a little tired BUT they are comfortable, very clean and thoughtful touches such as bottled water and extra milk and fruit juice available to residents, go along way. Breakfast was very good. The lady who checked us in, attended to the bar and breakfast was superb.

sorry on my experience wouldn't stay again
Room was quite good, but shower in needed to be looked at, once hot couldn't turn heat down. Breakfast was a disaster, milk supplied off, but was replaced. Juice was cordial with water. 'Chef' could not cook eggs - think they were done on full blast....

A Gem in the country side.
The Red Lion was excellent value for money, room was comfortable, food was first class, everything that comes out of the kitchen is home cooked and I can see them building a reputation of outstanding Pub Grub, also a good choice of beers in the bar. This is an excellent family run business who tick all the right boxes with the service they provide. It’s quiet but very convenient for the M180.

Comfy bed but couldn't have breakfast :(
My friend and I stayed here for 1 night as we had a paintball tournament just 7mind up the road. We didn't arrive untill late afternoon evening but never the less check in was straight forward and were given the keys to our twin room. Out room was clean and the beds comfy, the bathroom was functional but very dated colour (olive green) and could do with a revamp. Food was was fine and what we expected to be honest. The biggest let down was breakfast, we booked B+B but when checking in we were told that breakfast service was later at weekends (we stayed Saturday night) and started at 9. We had to leave earlier than that so were going to miss it. We were not offered a bowl of cereal or anything that we could have taken up tp our room that we could have before we left nor were we offered a reduction in our room rate for missing out. We payed £80 B+B but without the breakfast so to me that is VERY expensive and would think twice before booking here again.
