"Had some many things go wrong in our room. Fan on the balcony broke and a live wire was sparking. Outlet on balcony blew out and had to be capped. Washer broke. Water leaking in room on my son while he slept. Several lights in the rooms not working. Some of this related to storms, but most just bad luck or lack of upkeep. They did comp us for the inconveniences, but simple removed some hidden charges. A beautiful place and the ocean and pool and saltwater pool are amazing, but will not ever be going back because of the issues. "
"Great location. Lacks amenities but that did not bother us. Walking distance to almost everything. Yoga was awesome. Staff was friendly. I would stay here again."
"Nice property, our go to anytime we stay on the Big Island. It's in a great location near Kona, the airport, and a lot of activities. There are a lot of things to do at the property as well, including a pool, volleyball courts, grills, etc. The room is very spacious. It has a full sized kitchen, washer/dryer, dining room, and living room. It also has nice sized rooms and bathrooms."
Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful location, easy walk and drive to multiple good bars and restaurants. Private beach was so convenient and I loved having the laundry service. "
"We had a wonderful time at the Big Island Retreat! It is for an adult who is seeking some chill time, tucked away in the trees, birds to watch, and feel the ocean breeze. Recommend for people who are okay without AC (went in March and wind was enough to keep us cool and sleep well), who are okay with quiet hours (I loved them because the sound does carry which makes ocean hearing good), and who want to spend most of their time outside or off exploring. This was perfect for our needs because we had plans to go and explore everyday and then come back just to sleep. We enjoyed not being on a big expensive resort and felt more naturally placed in the area. Our room had a bathroom, a sink, a mini fridge, a coffee pot, and dishes. There is a communal grill and larger fridge with a communal dining table. Washer and dryer available in the main public space. The public space has an open air roofed garden which is quite beautiful. We saw lots of birdies and geckos. "
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Kailua-Kona by IHG
10/10 Excellent
"We had vacation plans change as storms on the island and at home changed our travel. IHG was available at very reasonable room rates. We were warmly welcomed and had great interactions with all staff members from the front desk to cleaners. The breakfast was good with nice options. The pool was refreshing and the hot tub was excellent! Our room was quiet, comfortable and clean. It was a very good stay—especially given the circumstances!"
"Lomi Lomi Room. It was a surprise to see a large one-room studio. Soaker bath with shower curtains in L/R area. Two walls with only screens but secure and relatively private. No A/C but efficient fans. Supplied earplugs were needed to block frog and bird and fountain noises, but I'm a light sleeper so kinda loud for me. I'm glad the recent storm didn't hit the property. That might have made the room inhospitable. But a pleasant stay away from the crowds in Kailua Kona. A bit of a drive from town - almost an hour to the airport with our 4:30 am. start."
"The front desk overcharged me when checking out and was super rude when sorting it out. I confirmed every single expense and credit one by one, did the exact calculation right in front of the lady, and the lady kept saying my calculation was wrong. Finally, someone else came to help and sorted it out.
NO APOLOGIES at all the entire process. She made me feel it was my mistake not theirs. Front desk assistant should at least graduate from elementary school to do simple math.
The elevator close to parking lot was very stinky. Room was with carpet so smelt wet during rainy weather.
Will never come back again to this property! So disappointing."
