As someone who has allergies one of the reasons I booked our accommodations at this unforgettable bread and breakfast was the hypoallergenic bedding and hardwood floors. The breakfast menu is thougtfully planned and scrumptious! Bonus: beautiful roosters and chickens as well as cute, friendly kitties who roam the property!"

"Clean and friendly staff. My main issue was limited amenities given the price. For over 1K for x2 nights one would think at least a coffee maker int he room would be available. The safe in my room would not turn on and upon further investigation the I found that the cover to the batteries on the inside of the safe which powers the key pad was missing and the batteries were just taped in place resulting in a loose connection. Given this was unable to use safe for fear that once lock batteries...

"The Royal Kona sits RIGHT on the ocean front atop lava rocks. It is a very old property that could use a facelift but it was clean and very open with nice breezes blowing through. We had a corner ocean front room that offered two patio sliders to a huge private deck.
The room was very large, the bed and pillows were very comfortable. There was a desk/dresser piece of furniture but there was no chair to sit at the desk, and there was no side table or coffee table of any kind by the couch. ...

"The showers had poor ventilation. Mildew and mold was so strong I was not able to shower there. I coughed uncontrollably when I entering. I took pictures for my insurance. I had parking across the street. Staff was helpful. There was one that was screaming and drinking alcohol. Other staff redirected her. She did curse often. I moved out after one day. The beds were cozy but if you have mold allergy it is impossible to stay there. Not enough ventilation in that area."

"We liked the room and liked the location - just steps to the Farmer's Market. This is more of a note to Expedia than to the Hilo Downtown Inn. This is the second place we have rented through Expedia that didn't tell us we'd need to negotiate stairs. My wife has trouble navigating stairs. I think the property and Expedia have an ethical and perhaps legal obligation to inform potential renters about the stairs."
