A truly incredible stay for our honeymoon. Breakfast and dinner are exceptional.
We had an amazing experience here. Highly recommend!! Staff was so nice and the breakfast experience was so special. The soaking tub was an extra bonus. Definitely stay here.
This stay was an incredible experience. From the moment you check-in, the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay exceed all expectations. Little touches like late night in-room snacks, private breakfasts, and very thoughtful going away gifts made this stay very memorable. It’s such a unique experience. We stayed in the Kashiwa Mochi room with open air bath, and it was the perfect blend of traditional ryokan with luxury touches. Felt like our own private home. I would highly recommend this property, well worth the cost
The building and room were an incredible mix of old and new. The service was amazing. The food for breakfast was great. The staff went above and beyond when they noticed our stay included my wife's birthday. We're already planning out return trip to Kyoto and Nazuna Kyoto Gosho.

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
We stayed here in 2023 and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was amazing, making it a very personalized experience. They’d call for reservations in the neighborhood, wrote personal notes. They used local Kyoto crafts people for all their personal touches. It was really special.
Fast forward to this experience: there’s hardly any staff available, and if you happen to come by one they’ll shove promotional items down your throat before you’ve even checked in your room. The pajamas in our room were dirty, smelt like cologne from a previous guest. The room had an awful artificial diffuser in it, it smelt so gross. I was really confused by this because Japan is so sensitive to scents. The breakfast was so sub par it was sad. I couldn’t even chew my steak. Last time they cooked the fish at the table, this time it was clearly made off property. The hot water in our room didn’t work on the last day, they fixed it but still ruined our final morning relaxation time.
They Have replaced the special touches with terrible branded merch thinking people won’t notice. I feel ripped off. This place is a joke now.
Stay was ok but it is weird when they provide gifts for posting a review. We did not post a review before we left so we did not receive a gift. Instead I purchased the candy that they sell as a Christmas gift for my GF. The candy never arrived and they ignore my emails. Not the end of the world but it was almost $100 so it is frustrating to be ignored (on top of not receiving the gift)
It was the most expensive hotel stay I have ever purchased. Room was nice - outdoor tub etc. Food was just OK. Prepared by a 20 something year old girl with no culinary training - which was odd but tasted fine. In hindsight I would have rather booked a nice restaurant and foregone this meal. Breakfast was pretty good. Not ,memorable but fine.
I wouldn't stay here again based on the value.
My wife and I stayed three nights at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho for our last stop in Japan.
The overall experience was wonderful and the staff could not have been more polite and helpful with our every need.
Room-well appointed and had everything we needed for our stay. Great spa like bathroom, nice bed and a sitting area.
While it felt traditionally Japanese, it had all the modern conveniences we were used to.
Food-the food was wonderful and cooked sukiyaki style in front of you for every meal. We only had dinner there one night which was a great experience but glad we had a chance to explore other restaurants We did eat breakfast there every morning and while it is not a traditional western style breakfast it was fun to try something a little different—-grilled steak or fish, grilled vegetables, rice and miso.
Our only complaint with the stay would be the in room massages. After days of walking around Tokyo, Mt Fuji and Kyoto we wanted a little relaxation and decided to book an in room massage. They were not massages at all but lighting pressing on your back covered in a blanket and towels for 1 hours. My wife and I were both a little irritated as it felt like a waisted hour when time is precious. I would recommend finding a massage studio outside of the hotel to anyone who really wants this service.
Side note….we did stumble upon a little restaurant/wine bar called Chrome a block away. If you get a chance, go!!! Amazing food and wine!!

Not worth the money
Let me start by saying that the staff were very polite, accommodating, and kind. Our issue is predominantly regarding the poor value for money and inaccurate hotels.com listing.
We are a couple on our honeymoon in Japan. We booked the only room available because we wanted to stay at this hotel given the unique machiya atmosphere. But the moment we walked into our room at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho, we were disappointed.
The room was dark, poorly designed/furnished, dusty, and there was a very irritating and constant noise from a bathroom fan driving me crazy within a few minutes. Moreover, the hotels.com listing indicated there was a private outdoor bath (not true) and free breakfast (not true). The room had very abrasive overhead lighting and the lamps in the hotels.com photos had been removed. And the tv was in the entry foyer but there was nowhere to sit in that room rendering the tv useless.
We were very upset, so the hotel staff switched us into a different room that was more acceptable. We appreciated the staff working with us to resolve the disappointment of the first room. (But even the nicer rooms had weird design flaws like no towel racks in the bathroom).
Regardless, there is no universe in which this hotel merits $600-700 per night (i.e. same price range as Four Seasons Kyoto). I regret splurging on this hotel.
Pros: great location with easy access to transit. Lots of great Izakayas nearby. Quieter, less touristy area.
The staff were amazing and hospitable. Spoke great English, and assisted in helping us book some reservations at nearby restaurants. Will definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho. The place is in a nice and quite neighborhood and has a very traditional Japanese feel to it. You're welcomed with a nice welcome drink with a very cute candy. They also provide a lot of gifts for you to take making it feel very welcoming. It was a nice stay overall.
This property is located in a safe neighbourhood, conveniently accessible to the tourist attractions in the city! Our room and the facility was very well done. The staff were very friendly, helpful and well versed in English. Would definitely recommend and go there again!
Really enjoyed our time here. Staff was incredible! Room was beautiful and breakfast was not only delicious, it was an experience. It was so relaxing, and far enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough to venture out. It was the best way to end our Japan trip. Thank you everyone at Nazuno, we will stay here again!
This place is beautiful and the staff is just as great. Such great attention to detail, the rooms are very clean and very tastefully done. The staff is super attentive and helpful. One of the best places I have ever stayed at. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would very highly recommend getting the breakfast in the morning, it was fantastic.
We were lucky enough to spend a few days of our honeymoon at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho. This Ryokan is incredible, the staff is most welcoming and attentive to every request. Moreover the breakfast is delicious and a truly unique experience.
We will definitely come back the next time we are in Kyoto.
We stayed for 1 night in April 2023 and we loved the experience at Nazuna Gosho. All staff members were super friendly and kind and were able to accommodate all of our requests during the stay. Highly recommend this place for any couples who visit Kyoto and we will come back next time we are in the city. Thank you for all the great memories!
