The William McKinley Memorial is a Canton, Ohio landmark, and is the final resting place of the 25th U.S. President and his wife Ida. The site also houses the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum and a large public park.
McKinley was born in Niles, Ohio but began his career in Canton, the city he called home. McKinley was also the 39th Governor of Ohio. On September 6th 1901, six months into his second term as President, McKinley was shot by a Polish American anarchist. He died 8 days later on September 14th. He was succeeded by his vice president Theodore Roosevelt. The monument, which has 108 steps leading up to its doors, is a very popular destination for area fitness fans who jog up and down the steps throughout the day.
