"We had a fantastic stay at Hurricane Hole. The beds were comfy, the shower was surprisingly good for a houseboat, and the managers of the marina gave excellent customer service. We had nurse sharks, tarpins, jellyfish, snapper, and manatees visit us daily.
This is a working marina and you are staying on a boat. There are smells and you will hear and feel the boats move, especially at night. None of that would stop us from returning, but be aware that this is not a luxury resort and that's part of its charm.
Also, the restaurant is fantastic. Great happy hour and the burgers rate among the best we've ever had. I had the patty melt twice in one week and it alone was worth the flight to Key West.
The location was great. 10-15 minutes to Duval St (or a $15 Uber during peak hours), but far away enough for real relaxation. Coffee on the dock in the morning was a peaceful and beautiful start to a day. And Stock Island has some great character of its own. Don't miss Hogfish or Tropical Market (authentic Cuban cuisine at a crazy cheap price).
Light sleepers and fussy travelers might reconsider but for us, we are already planning our return. Thanks for the memories Hurricane Hole!"
