"The view from this room was really pretty overlooking the lake. It is just up the hill from the train station and the town so easily walkable. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the host was very communicative. We were able to drop our luggage off at a sister property as we arrived earlier than the 2 o’clock check-in and didn’t want to tote everything up and down the hills. The balconies were an added bonus."

6. Alto Perledo Terrazzo

"The view is spectacular. Additional instructions on where the unit located in the whole complex. Provide instructions on how to get there from Varenna train station by bus as in our case taxi and Uber were not available at the time, Google maps did not show the bus option, walking with luggage is not an option as it's a long steep and winding road. Tip: take the bus at the station, bus stop located at the end of the parking lot, get off at Perledo-Bologna stop and walk down to the propery."

7. Casa Al Prato Apt. A

Varenna

"This property is in a great location! It is spacious and has comfortable space and a comfortable bed. The main issues were, no hand soap at either sink, no dishwasher liquid to wash dishes and no extra toilet paper or garbage bags. There were 5 small body wash/shampoo packets and one laundry detergent pod for two people for 5 nights. When asked, the response was that they are not a hotel. Ant spray was under the sink and needed as many small ants were crawling about the apartment. Our...

8. Fontana Del Lago Apt. 7

Varenna

"The view of the lake was spectacular and it was clean. Everything else was sub par. The condition of the property is a borderline fixer upper. Walls need painting. Concrete deck is stained with mildew. No toilet seat. Damage to walls and doors and multiple locations and other cosmetic issues. We arrived during check-in hours and had trouble with the lock box. We called two different numbers and no one picked up. We were finally able to get the lock box to pop open - not sure where we would...

10. Vista d'Oro Palma Apt. 21

Perledo

"The view from this apartment is incredible and we would stay again for that. However, a couple of issues were the general cleanliness and communication. The place was in need of a vacuum and many of the plates and glasses had collected dust and required us to rinse them before using. We were also unable to wash the dishes because the dishwasher wasn’t working (probably user-error) but when we messaged the host for instructions, they did not reply. There was also no dishwashing liquid provided to...

13. Il Giardino di Alice

Varenna

"Supplies such as paper towels, garbage bags, etc were in short supply. Management did not seem to care that both showers drained slow (one overflowing, flooding the bathroom). Bathrooms do not have counter space or hooks to hang toiletries. If you choose to rent, be aware of the many steps leading to the apartment and the several levels inside. This apt is not for the elderly or young children."

15. Little Nest Flat in Varenna

Varenna

"This recently renovated flat is in a good location. It is close to the center of Varenna with nearby shops and restaurants and the villa. The picture shown was not the flat we stayed in so we were disappointed. We stayed below the one shown in the picture. Our flat did not a a table and chairs outside. The flat entrance is in the middle of two buildings with a stairway in the middle. The front of the flat looks out over the stairway area. Just below our flat there is a nice man who sells...
