The building itself is truly impressive, with a sense of history and grandeur that makes a strong first impression. The location is also excellent, very convenient for exploring San Francisco.
That said, some areas of the hotel feel dated. The hallways in particular look old and have a harsh white lighting that feels more like a hospital than a luxury property.
The rooms have high ceilings and a good size, which is a plus, but the bathrooms are relatively small. The white lighting in the rooms also creates a very cold ambiance, which takes away from the overall comfort.
In general, much of the furniture throughout the hotel could benefit from a renovation.
Overall, it’s a beautiful historic property in a great location. With some thoughtful modernization that respects and blends with the hotel’s classic character, it could truly be exceptional.
