When I arrived at the front desk to check in, I had to pay a 10 euro tax. No problem at all. The person at the desk was pleasant enough. She asked me if I wanted breakfast the next morning for six euros. Since I had just arrived, I didn't want to commit to it at that time. I was told that if I were interested, I could just pay to have breakfast in the morning. Fine, makes total sense.
The next morning I was awoken by a frantic call at 10 minutes before 10am. The person from the hotel was telling me I was going to miss breakfast. I said that I wasn't interested.
When I got up and left the hotel, the person at the front desk confronted me with criticism over not telling them I didn't want breakfast. I disagreed with their understanding of the situation and could tell this person was losing it over a 6 euro breakfast.
I stay in hotels about 100 nights per year and never had this kind of situation occur.
It made my stay awkward as I had to interact with the front desk for my key as I left and returned to the hotel. When I returned later, the person at the front desk saw me coming and quickly left the desk so I had to stand and wait for her to return so I could retrieve my room key. It was a blatantly passive aggressive move.
Then, on my last day there, I returned to my room and heard extremely loud construction going on right above me. The desk, with my computer and camera equipment, and my bed was covered with plaster pieces and dust.
