we had a wonderful stay with our grandchildren in December, the hotel was beautiful and the seasonal decorations where truly spectacular. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our room was fabulous with a queen size bed as well as bunk beds for the children.
The dining room was beautiful, spacious and spotlessly clean with wonderful views of the lake. Would 100% stay here again.
The hotel was clean and staff friendly. we enjoyed our stay.

Old style hotel in need of some upgrade but very large room and king bed. Room cleaned daily to a high standard. Good spa facilities but pool was cold due to maintenance issue. Ideally located for shops pubs etc. Only down side £25 per day car parking charge, but not a lot of alternative parking available.

Great last minute stay, lovely breakfast, helpful staff
Very enjoyable stay in a very comfortable room with a spectacular view of the lake, thanks to Sandra on reception being most helpful. All very close to plenty of watering holes and restaurants, made for a great weekend!

Lovely and helpful customer facing staff.
Breakfast service very slow. Pool was freezing. Car parking provided by hotel at a charge (£25/day), and offsite.
We stayed 15 years ago and had left with a much better impression then. We wouldn’t look to return after this visit.
Will start with the negatives first.
1. Parking after I booked was £25 per night which you don't have to go with, opted for parking in Glebe Road for £21.60 for 3 days which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel, all amenities are within a 5 minute walk from the hotel so no need to drive anywhere.
2. Breakfast was nice but most of the options on the menu are with a £5 supplement added on top if you've already paid for B&B.
3. Spa facilities are not what you would expect for the price, consists of a swimming pool and a place to receive treatments nothing more, little disappointing if I'm honest.
These are the only 3 negatives.
Hotel very clean and the room we booked was very nice, staff were really friendly.
We didn't have food in the hotel apart from breakfast so can not comment on this or drinks as we enjoyed the restaurants and bars within walking distance from the hotel, atmosphere around the area was brilliant.
Already looking at booking our next stay and wouldn't hesitate staying at the Macdonald Old England again apart from the first three negatives hotel was really nice.
Was a bit sceptical after reading some reviews but our experience was brilliant.
We had a lovely stay for our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we upgraded our room to Super Deluxe which was very spacious and had a great view of the lake. A card was left in our room wishing us a happy anniversary which was a nice touch. Perfect location, breakfast was good and staff were exceptional. Our room wasn’t ready until 4 which is what the hotel states as check in time, this is a bit later than most hotels but we enjoyed a drink at the bar while we waited. Overall a lovely relaxing stay and we would definitely return.

The staff were lovely
The public toilets were very smelly.
The rooms needed tlc especially bathrooms
Horrendously uncomfortable bed and pillows. Strong smell of cleaning fluid
The most wonderful stay, was unaware there was a pre-planned surprise awaiting us to celebrate our engagement. Staff were totally professional and I was none the wiser, room was beautiful as was the view!

We upgraded to get a view of the lake from our room. Nice old hotel!
The hotel is a lovely hotel in fantastic settings on the edge of Lake Windermere, and the staff were helpful friendly and accommodating. Small gripe is they advertise the hotel as having parking which is always a plus in the Lakes, but they don’t tell you it’s at £25 per night which I thought was a little over priced given what you pay to stay at the hotel. Also be aware of the drinks in the bar as they are well overpriced compared to most places and bars outside the hotel.
